Gatton Racing Tips 6 Nov 2026: Thunderous Again?

Overview

Thunderous has been placed at all four of its Gatton starts, two of them wins, and D L Turner rides it in Race 5. Turner has won on two of three Gatton rides, and trainer Marcus Wilson has placed eight of 11 runners here, so the whole package points the same way even with the 60kg top weight.

That is the angle that holds the card together, but it is not the only one. Pat W Webster has placed nine of ten Gatton runners and sends out Ladies Ocean Run in Race 2, and two of the afternoon’s handicaps are led by horses that won at their only start on this track. These Gatton racing tips cover all eight races on a Soft track, from a 941m three-year-old maiden at 12:57PM to a 1531m handicap at 5:20PM. Markets were open for the first three races when this was written and not yet for the last five, so prices appear where they exist and nowhere else. Expect a NAP, a value runner, a banker for the multis and a course angle at the bottom.

Gatton racing tips: reading the card

The going is Soft across the card, with three distances in play: 941m for the opener, 1203m for Races 2, 3 and 5, and 1531m for the last four after the maiden handicap in Race 4. Scratchings have thinned the second half of the card. Six are out of Race 4 and three of the top weights are gone from Race 8, which changes the look of both races.

Only five runners still in today’s fields have three or more Gatton starts, so most of the course form here is thin. These are the ones with enough to count.

Horse Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Peach Galantes 8 1 4 12.5 50.0

Oh Pretty Emma 3 1 2 33.3 66.7
Ellofaby 3 0 1 0.0 33.3

The riders are where Gatton has real volume. These are the jockeys with at least five rides here, sorted by how often they finish in the first three.

Gatton race by race

Race 1: Barrier Reef Pools Mdn Plate, 12:57PM, 941m

Zandari has run second at each of its last two starts and placed at its only Gatton outing, and it is the one to beat in a three-year-old maiden where half the field has had one start or none. The weight helps too at 54.5kg, and S Tierney has ridden 17 times at Gatton for two wins and seven placings. The Stuart & Bayley Kendrick runner is $2.50 with Neds, which is short but fair for the most reliable profile in the race.

Montagnola is the danger. It ran fifth on debut, and the market has it at $4.40 with Bet Right, which suggests the stable expects improvement second up. Cejay Graham has won on two of nine Gatton rides. Storm Petal, third two starts back, rounds out the shortlist at $6.50 with Ladbrokes.

Zandari to win, and the anchor for any early double.

Race 2: Falvey’s Hotel Gatton Hcp (58), 1:34PM, 1203m

Two horses, two different cases. Ladies Ocean Run ran second last start and placed at its only Gatton appearance, and Pat W Webster‘s record here is the best on the card: nine of ten Gatton runners from that stable have finished in the first three. Leslie Tilley, who has 11 placings from 31 Gatton rides, keeps the ride. It is $2.40 with Bet Right and has every right to be favourite.

The problem is the price, not the horse. Final Voyage has finished in the first three at all five of its starts in the last 90 days, with a win among them, and its form line ends 1-2-2-2. It carries 56kg against Ladies Ocean Run‘s 59.5kg, draws barrier 2, and William Galloway has five placings from ten Gatton rides. At $5.50 with Unibet, it is the better bet.

Terracotta Rose (second last start, $4.00 with Bet Right) is the third leg of the trifecta. Peach Galantes is scratched.

Final Voyage each-way, with a saver on Ladies Ocean Run.

Race 3: QN Hotel Laidley Mdn Plate, 2:12PM, 1203m

Six scratchings have left an open maiden, and the market can’t split the top four. Hellavalegacy gets the vote. It ran second last start, its only run in the last 90 days, carries 54.5kg and jumps from barrier 2. P J Wallace has placed four of eight Gatton runners, and $4.60 with Unibet is a fair price for the most recent good run in the race.

Bowling Harry is the danger at $4.20 with Bet Right. Trainer Paul Butterworth has two wins from three Gatton runners, and Cejay Graham takes the ride, but Bowling Harry finished eighth last start after a third and a second. She’s Our Vega, a first starter from P L Shailer, carries only 52kg and is $4.80 with Bet Right, so the market expects a big debut.

Small win bet on Hellavalegacy. Not a race to load up on.

Race 4: Book A Round At The Gatton Jubilee Golf Club Mdn Hcp, 2:50PM, 1531m

Does Ellofaby finally get the win? It has run second at each of its last two starts, placed at two of its four runs in the last 90 days, and has three Gatton starts for one placing. That isn’t a great record, but it has a light weight at 54.5kg and Tiffani Brooker, whose five Gatton wins are the most of any rider on the card.

Six runners are scratched, including Fierce Lady and Holy Steps, which leaves a weak race. Rose Of Chantilly is the danger, placed once from four starts in the last 90 days, and K R Kemp has won with five of 22 Gatton runners. Trusty Felina and Denver Bronco have had one start each and could improve.

Ellofaby each-way. There was no market up when this was written.

Race 5: Mcneil Farms Hcp (58), 3:27PM, 1203m

Thunderous is the bet of the day. It has had four starts at Gatton for two wins and two placings, so it has never missed the first three on this track. That is the strongest course record of any runner on the card.

Its recent form is solid without being spectacular: three placings from five starts in the last 90 days, with its form line ending 3-4-2-3. It hasn’t been running badly, just running into one or two better horses, and today it is back at the track where it has the best record.

The connections matter too. D L Turner has won on two of three Gatton rides and placed on all three. Marcus Wilson has won with four of 11 Gatton runners and placed with eight. A stable with that record at Gatton, a rider in form here and a horse that has never missed the frame on the track: that is a clear signal.

The worry is weight. It is top weight on 60kg, and on a Soft track that is a real burden over 1203m. Claudio is the danger, with a last-start win in its form line and only 56.5kg. Almond Gold is the other to respect, with a win from two starts in the last 90 days, and Emily Lang, placed on eight of ten Gatton rides, takes the ride.

Switch To Go and Wax On Wax Off are scratched. No market was open when this was written, so check the price on the racecard first. Thunderous to win, and the NAP.

Race 6: Movember – Men’s Health Month Hcp (58), 4:04PM, 1531m

Kick On Charlie is a three-year-old taking on older horses, which usually counts against a horse. Here the evidence says otherwise. It won last start, won at its only Gatton start and has placed at both of its starts in the last 90 days. P L Shailer has had one Gatton runner and it won, and D Peisley has three wins from 14 rides here.

Lord Danilo is the danger, with four placings from five starts in the last 90 days. It has 53.5kg, the lightest weight in the race, and draws barrier 1. It has been unplaced at both of its Gatton starts, which keeps it out of the top spot, but it is a strong place chance. Clubhouse, from the Marcus Wilson and D L Turner team, has placed at two of its three recent starts.

Headline Legend, which had won three of its last six, is scratched, and that makes the race much easier. Kick On Charlie to win, Lord Danilo for the place.

Race 7: Book In Your Work Xmas Party 4th Dec Hcp (58), 4:42PM, 1531m

The market will have to deal with Change The Deel. It won last start, won at its only Gatton appearance, and P J Minter has won with two of seven Gatton runners. Aidan Keeley takes the ride. It has 59.5kg, the joint top weight, which is the price of winning, but the form says it is the best horse in a race that lost Water Lad to a scratching.

Rockrata is the one that can beat it, and it is the each-way play of the meeting. It has placed at all three of its starts in the last 90 days, its form line ends 2-4-3, and it carries 54kg, five and a half kilos less than the top pick. Ashley Butler has placed on four of 11 Gatton rides.

Langan is worth noting as well. It has a win among its three starts in the last 90 days, and Tahlia Fenlon, a winner on four of 11 Gatton rides, rides for Chris & Corey Munce. Change The Deel to win, Rockrata each-way.

Race 8: Redmond’s Pet & Livestock Supplies Hcp (58), 5:20PM, 1531m

With Magic Moz, Privalova and Bambino Di Vino all scratched, Oh Pretty Emma has the best Gatton record left in the field: three starts here for a win and two placings. It ran third last start, and B Lerena, who has 11 placings from 26 Gatton rides, rides for William Kropp. It has 58kg, which is now the joint top weight.

Peach Galantes is the danger. It has had eight Gatton starts for a win and four placings, so it knows the track better than anyone, and it carries just 54kg after being scratched from Race 2. Flying Phoenix won one of its two Gatton starts and also deserves a look.

Oh Pretty Emma to win, with an exacta saver on Peach Galantes.

Where the money goes

NAP: Thunderous (Race 5, 3:27PM). It has finished in the first three at all four of its Gatton starts, and its jockey and trainer both have strong records here. The 60kg is the only real reason to be wary.

Value: Final Voyage (Race 2, 1:34PM). It has placed at all five starts in the last 90 days and gets 3.5kg off the favourite. $5.50 with Unibet is generous for a horse that keeps running well.

Banker: Zandari (Race 1, 12:57PM). It has run second at each of its last two starts in a field full of horses with little or no form. $2.50 with Neds.

Each-way: Rockrata (Race 7, 4:42PM). It has placed at all three recent starts and gets a big weight drop on the favourite.

Course angle: Pat W Webster. Nine of ten Gatton runners from the stable have finished in the first three. Ladies Ocean Run is its only runner today.

If Webster keeps up that strike rate, the stable’s runners will be worth checking at every Gatton meeting.
