Horsham Racing Tips 18 Oct 2026: Can Gina’s A Star Go On?

Overview

Gina’s A Star has finished in the first three at every start in the last 90 days: three runs, a win, two placings and $40,100 banked. That is the steadiest recent record among the main chances in the Mackays Family Jewellers BM70, and the horse meets the race at 56kg with D Yendall aboard. That makes Race 4 the anchor of our Horsham racing tips.

The rest of the day is a mix. Eight races on a Good to Soft surface run from 1:35pm to 5:40pm, three maidens open proceedings, and the Manhari Horsham Cup over 2100m is the feature. Course form among today’s runners is thin, so the weight shifts to recent form, connections and how each race will be run. The early maidens already have prices up; the back half of the card had no live market when this was written, so read those as form calls rather than value calls.

Reading the Horsham card

Limited course form across today’s fields. Only ten runners have been to Horsham before, and every one of them has a single start here. Caribbean Villa and Makarim both won on their only visit, Pianta ran second, and Monix and Surfy Pete each ran third. Useful, but no more than a nudge.

The riders give us more to work with. Cian Macredmond has the best Horsham record of anyone booked today, with four wins from 12 rides, and picks up Budjik Boy in the Cup. P A Preusker brings the biggest team and has the volume here: 26 runners for three wins and nine placings.

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%

Andrew Bobbin 8 1 3 12.5 37.5
P A Preusker 26 3 9 11.5 34.6
Nathan Hobson 9 1 3 11.1 33.3

Tom Dabernig is the quiet one to watch. The stable has placed five of its six Horsham runners, and its two today are Strength Within in Race 3 and Bazzar in Race 5, both ridden by L J Meech.

Horsham race-by-race tips

Race 1: Bet365 Position Payout Mdn Plate, 1:35PM, 2100m

Courting is the one they all have to beat, and the market agrees: $1.85 with Bet Right. Three starts so far, and the last two produced a pair of thirds, which is the kind of steady progress that usually ends with a maiden win. Courting gets in with 55kg from barrier 5 for H Coffey and the McEvoy stable.

Little Ally Bama is the danger. Three runs have gone fifth, fourth, third, so this one is improving with every outing, and L J Meech rides. At $3.00 with Unibet that is a fair saver. Courting to win, Little Ally Bama in the exacta.

Race 2: Carlton Draught Mdn Plate, 2:10PM, 1400m

Best Terms is the obvious answer at $2.20 with Unibet. Second three times and third once in the four runs since a spell, Best Terms has done everything but win, and the McEvoy stable placed in half of its six Horsham runners. The question is fitness: no runs in the past 90 days, so this is a fresh horse.

That opens the door for Blue Valentine. Three straight seconds, all inside the last 90 days, is about as consistent as a maiden gets, and Tyler Donaldson-Aitken’s only previous Horsham runner also ran second. Barrier 14 is the catch, and Luke Cartwright will have to give up ground or burn petrol early. At $6.50 with Bet Right that is a price that allows for the draw. Each-way on Blue Valentine; Best Terms for exotics.

Race 3: Priceline Pharmacy Horsham Mdn Plate, 2:45PM, 1100m

Four scratchings have stripped this back to 11, and the market has made up its mind. Cosmic Voyage ran second on debut and is $1.80 with Unibet to go one better. Back from a break and drawn in barrier 2 for John Allen, the horse can roll forward and control it.

The one with a stable story is Strength Within at $6.00 with Unibet. Down the track on debut, but Dabernig’s Horsham record and Meech’s booking suggest the stable thinks more of the horse than that run did. Moab, a debutant for Preusker with Macredmond up, is the other worth a look at $7.00 with Bet Right. Cosmic Voyage is the likeliest winner but no betting proposition at the price. Small win bet only, or use as a multi leg.

Race 4: Mackays Family Jewellers (Bm70), 3:20PM, 1200m

Does anyone in this race run as consistently as Gina’s A Star? A win and two placings from three starts in the last 90 days, and a longer line of four, one, three, two, one, two. Barrier 5 in a field of nine gives Yendall every option, and 56kg is a comfortable weight for a horse in this kind of order.

Min Kiata is the one I respect most. Two wins from four runs in the last 90 days for the Walters stable, and K Walters takes the ride. Monix brings course form, a third on the only Horsham visit, but has 60.5kg and the outside gate. Milos Filos was third at the only run in the 90-day window and is the next best. Gina’s A Star to win. This is the best bet on the card.

Race 5: L & H Electrical (Bm62), 3:55PM, 1100m

Two horses in this race have won at Horsham, and both did it on their only visit. Caribbean Villa drew the rail and Makarim drew 10, which tells you plenty about how differently they will be ridden. I’d rather a horse in form, though, and Marilyn’s Edge is the better recent profile: a win and two placings from three starts in the last 90 days, with the last two going first then third.

Barrier 12 is a problem for Jett Stanley, but the 1100m start gives a run before the turn and there should be time to slot in midfield. Makarim is the danger. Neil Farley has two wins from nine rides here, and the horse has shown it handles this track. What A Ripper is lightly raced and was well beaten last time. Marilyn’s Edge each-way; this is a race to keep the stakes small.

Race 6: Farm Frites Mcc Series Heat 5 (Bm70), 4:30PM, 1400m

The deepest race on the card, and the one with the most horses in form. Four of them have won twice in the last 90 days. Royal Infantry has placed at all four starts over that stretch, with two wins. Spex has won two of three and placed in all three. Stargust has two wins from five. Final Countdown has two from three and the most prizemoney of those four.

The shape sorts it out. Royal Infantry draws barrier 2 and can sit just off the speed for Farley, which is the place to be in a 13-horse field at 1400m. Spex is the lightest of the in-form group at 55.5kg but has drawn 13, and Final Countdown is even wider in 14. Stargust from barrier 9 is the likeliest of the wide group to get a decent run.

Spex is the main danger. If Stanley can get across and find cover, the weight relief makes Spex dangerous late. No market was up when this was written, so check the price before you commit. Royal Infantry to win, with Spex and Stargust in the trifecta.

Race 7: Manhari Horsham Cup, 5:05PM, 2100m

Preusker has three in the Cup, and the one Macredmond chose is the one to follow. Budjik Boy won one and placed in both starts in the last 90 days, and carries just 54kg, while Miracle Spin has 60.5kg. That 6.5kg gap is a lot over 2100m. Macredmond and Preusker have combined for two wins and five placings from 11 runs together since the start of 2025, and Macredmond is the most successful rider at Horsham on today’s list.

Barrier 10 means Budjik Boy will probably settle back, which is fine at this trip. Miracle Spin won last start and has the class, but carrying that weight against a well-weighted improver is a big ask. Nothingelsematters is the each-way angle: three placings from five starts in the last 90 days and $47,940 in earnings over that stretch. Budjik Boy to win; Nothingelsematters each-way.

Race 8: Mixx FM (Bm62), 5:40PM, 1800m

Surfy Pete gets the nod in the last. Third on the only Horsham start, Surfy Pete has won one and placed in three of four runs in the last 90 days, with the last two finishes both thirds. Meech rides for Preusker, and 59kg is manageable.

Kilna is the danger, with two wins from the last three starts before a break, and returns for Preusker under Shayleigh Ingelse. If ready first-up, Kilna is the class runner, but has to do it with 61kg. Weather Delay is worth a saver too. Robert Hickmott’s only previous Horsham runner won. Surfy Pete each-way.

Where the money goes

NAP: Gina’s A Star (Race 4, 3:20PM). Three starts in the last 90 days, three top-three finishes, and a draw that allows a choice of spot. Hard to find a hole in that.

Value: Blue Valentine (Race 2, 2:10PM), $6.50 with Bet Right. Three seconds in a row, and the stable’s only previous Horsham runner also ran second. Barrier 14 is why the price is bigger than the form.

Banker: Courting (Race 1, 1:35PM). Two thirds from three starts, and the improvement has been steady. Short at $1.85 with Bet Right, but the right multi leg.

Each-way: Nothingelsematters (Race 7, 5:05PM). Three placings from five starts in the last 90 days and $47,940 earned. Hard to see this one far away.

Course angle: Cian Macredmond. Four wins from 12 Horsham rides is the strongest jockey record on the card, and the Cup ride for Preusker is the clearest chance of the day.

If Dabernig keeps placing five of every six runners brought here, Horsham punters will start backing that stable before they look at the form.
