Highland Dancer looks the right horse to start the day, and I’m happy to say it early. Three runs for Stirling Osland and the form line is as clean as you’ll get in an early maiden: 2-2-3. He’s been around the mark without ever looking like a total grind, and that matters over this sharp 1039m where you don’t want to be spotting them six lengths at the top of the straight.
The main query is the set-up: he carries 125.6 and he draws 7, so the ride needs to be positive. In a small field, that gate isn’t a death sentence, but you can’t afford to miss the kick and give away track position. If he lands one off the speed, his consistency should finally get paid.
The danger is Haney. That 463-2 profile screams “maiden about to win”, and the draw 2 is the sort of cheap advantage you want in a short sprint. If Haney begins cleanly and controls the rail run, Highland Dancer might have to be the better horse rather than just the best form.

Race 2: Hennessy Real Estate Country Boosted Mdn Plate — 13:25, 1312m
This is the race that asks the question: who’s ready to win and who’s just been hanging around the placings? For mine, Flaunter is the one you can trust to run to his mark again. He’s 2-2-3-2, which reads like a horse that keeps finding and keeps holding his form, and that’s usually the safest profile in these country maidens.
The tricky bit is the draw. Barrier 10 at 1312m means Jasmine Urquhart-Warren has to make an early decision: press on and risk being posted, or snag back and hope the race opens up. With that consistent form, I’d rather see a positive ride and accept a little work early, because the alternatives can turn this into a luck story.
Side Quest is the danger and the obvious one to have around your bet. She’s been around the money too (86242) and she carries the light 116.8, which can make a real difference if they run along. If Flaunter gets trapped wide, Side Quest is the type that can pinch it with the right run.
Don’t ignore Jukebox Edition from gate 1 either. He’s not winning often, but he’s a map horse. If the inside is kind and he gets the cheap lead or the cheap box-seat, he can easily outrun the market.
Staking: Each-way Flaunter. Save on Side Quest if Flaunter drifts and you can get a price that makes sense.
Race 3: Secretary’s Mdn Hcp — 14:05, 1531m
I’m backing the horse with the clearest “about to win” vibe: Whiskey And Wine. He’s 3-4-2-2 and keeps putting himself in the finish. At 1531m, that reliability matters. These races can turn into messy mid-race battles where half the field wants to over-race, and the horse that relaxes and keeps building is often the one that gets the last crack.
The issue is he has to do it from barrier 8 with 131.1 on his back. That’s a real ask, not a footnote. The reason I’m still with him is the booking: Looker climbs aboard, and he’s the best map rider on the card with a genuine Moree record. If Looker can slot in without burning too much petrol, Whiskey And Wine’s consistency should take him right to the line.
The danger is Underpin (03) with Jacob Stiff. He’s still lightly exposed and he draws 3, which screams “soft run” in a race where plenty will be working. If Underpin takes a step forward third-up in experience, he’s the one that can jump out of the ground.
Staking: Win bet Whiskey And Wine if the price holds up. If he’s short, I’d rather play him to win and save on Underpin than take skinny each-way.
Race 4: Agriware Hcp (C1) — 14:40, 1531m
The market will probably gravitate to recent wins and pretty last-start margins, but I’m happy to make this a map and class bet. Always A Rainbow is the horse I want onside. He’s been on a strong run of form (2213), he draws gate 1, and he gets Looker, which is the combination I want in a C1 where positioning decides whether you get the last shot or you spend the straight looking for air.
This is also the race where a lot of the field has something to say but not everything to prove. Northern Eagle comes off a win (404341) and can absolutely measure up again, but he draws 7 and he’ll need to do a touch more work than my pick. Justo’s Rocket (2-72451) has the right profile too and draws 2, which puts him right in the race from the jump.
If you want a course angle, Chasing Quivers has won on his only start at Moree, and that’s worth noting without getting carried away. He’s still a six-year-old with patchy recent form (521508), but if he lands in the right spot, he’s the type that can stick on and ruin a few exotics.
This is the best betting race on the card because you can build a bet around position: inside gate, proven rider at the track, and a horse that keeps running well in its grade.
