Randwick Racing Tips 7 Oct 2026 — can Waller own the midcard?
Randwick Racing Tips 7 Oct 2026 — can Waller own the midcard?
When you get a Randwick card where one yard has runners in nearly every race, the job isn’t to find clever words. It’s to work out whether the stable is simply represented or actually set up. Chris Waller turns up again with depth, but the more interesting angle today is how the big levers line up: James McDonald riding the right ones, barriers that either invite a soft stalk or force a proper ride, and a couple of progressive types who might be better than their grade.
This is a three-race meeting on turf, and it reads like a neat little narrative: a maiden where a few have been knocking on the door, then a Benchmark 64 where the map and weight swing the argument, then a Benchmark 78 where the in-form runners are forced to prove it at Randwick under proper pressure. These Randwick racing tips aim to do one thing: get you to the bet quickly, with enough reasoning that you can agree or tell me I’m mad.
Randwick — the setup
We’re on the Randwick turf. Going info isn’t provided in the feed, so I’m treating it as neutral and leaning harder on barriers, riding strength, and whether a horse’s recent profile says it can sustain a run at this circuit.
Limited course form across today’s fields. Most runners have one or two starts here, which is a data point not a trend. Where course history does matter today is in the people: the riders and the stables with big Randwick samples.

Race-by-race
Race 1: Catanach’s Jewellers Mdn Plate — 14:20, 1531m
The race looks like it wants to fall into the lap of Klocke. Three straight seconds is the sort of form that either breaks you or hardens you, and with James McDonald taking the ride, I’m happy to assume it’s the latter. From gate 5 he can let the race declare itself and land in that sweet spot, not giving away a start, not getting dragged into someone else’s plan.
The maiden has a few that keep bumping into one better. Dance With Destiny brings the classic “always there” profile (465222) and maps for a soft run from barrier 2 with Kerrin McEvoy, but you don’t want to keep taking short prices about horses that have made a career out of finding one too good. Love Story is the obvious fresh piece: second at the only start, from the Waterhouse and Bott yard, and Hyeronimus is a positive booking. She can win, but you’re betting on upside rather than evidence.
The danger for me is The Roaring Sun (also second at the only start). Waller has it, Tommy Berry rides, and if that runner steps cleanly into the race from a wide draw, it’s the one with the upside to go past the grinders late.
Staking: Win bet Klocke. Small saver on The Roaring Sun if you want insurance against the improver.
Race 2: Asahi Super Dry (Bm64) — 14:55, 1367m
Here’s the puzzle: can the on-paper class hold up when the map gets awkward? I’m leaning to Sky Deck because it’s the most straightforward ride in the race. Gate 2 at 1367m gives Chad Schofield options: hold a spot if they go quick, or slide forward if they hand it up. The form line (58116) says it’s thriving, and Snowden doesn’t tilt at Randwick without a plan.
The horse that scares me is Punxsutawney Phil. Two starts, two wins, and that’s as clean as it gets. Zac Lloyd keeps the ride and from barrier 5 it should land in a stalking spot without burning petrol. If this turns into a sit-sprint, the unbeaten horse is the one I want most onside.
Waller’s pair bring different angles. Chappy comes off a win (7-3221) with Rawiller on, which always reads like intent, but barrier 11 asks the question early. Sphere gets the rail draw and Siena Grima knows Randwick well, yet the profile (331735) says it can hit the frame without necessarily smashing through the line when it matters.
One quick reality check on course history: Portico has had one run here and finished eighth, so don’t let anyone sell you the “Randwick horse” angle. It might improve today, but the track record isn’t a weapon.
Staking: Win bet Sky Deck. Exacta saver with Punxsutawney Phil running second if you’re playing multiples.
Race 3: Myracehorse (Bm78) — 15:30, 1531m
This is the best betting race on the card because the form is actually live and the decisions are clear. I’m with Maluku. The Pride yard has the horse flying (1121), and Hyeronimus suits these Randwick races when he can hold a spot, then build from the 600m without panic. Gate 4 is the key here: it lets Maluku land in the first half and make this a test of strength, not luck.
The obvious pace and pressure comes from Superfabulistic (7-32211). Waterhouse and Bott don’t bring them to watch, and Rachel King will have it rolling. It has only had one run at Randwick and placed, so that’s a nice tick without pretending it’s a trend. If they control the speed, Maluku has to be good enough to reel in a fit horse on a roll.
Waller has quantity and some quality. Sing Your Song is the lightweight improver (231) with Siena Grima, and while it’s had only one Randwick run, it finished second. That’s not a “specialist” stamp, but it tells you the track won’t bother it. Alabama Fox is the other strong form horse (422-12) and draws gate 1, which can be either the dream run or the box seat that never opens. If Lloyd gets the split at the right time, it can absolutely win.
Transcend carries plenty of weight and draws 9, so Berry has to ride a proper race, not a casual one. It has three Randwick runs for one placing, which is fine, but it’s not a free pass either.

Staking: Win bet Maluku. Saver on Superfabulistic if you expect them to crawl early and kick hard late.
The plays
NAP: Maluku (Race 3, 15:30). Pride has it peaking and the draw gives Hyeronimus every chance to ride it like the best horse, not the luckiest horse.
Value: Klocke (Race 1, 14:20). Three consecutive seconds can scare people off, but McDonald taking over reads like the push to finish the job.
Banker for multis: Sky Deck (Race 2, 14:55). The map is kinder than most of its rivals and Schofield is a plus around Randwick with 100-plus rides of evidence.
Each-way angle: Punxsutawney Phil (Race 2). Unbeaten profiles belong in the top two mix until they prove otherwise, and barrier 5 keeps the run clean.
Course angle: If you’re unsure, follow the people. McDonald wins often here and hits the frame more than half the time at Randwick, and Waller places plenty of runners here across a proper sample. When those two line up on a horse with the right draw, you don’t need to get cute.
Next time this kind of midweek Randwick card pops up, watch which Waller runners get McDonald versus which ones get “serviceable” rides, because that split keeps paying when you respect it.
