Race 1: No.1 Car Wash Mdn Plate — 13:05, 1894m
The puzzle here is simple: who actually wants 1900 metres today? I’m siding with Good Harmony (barrier 3) because the profile reads like a horse that keeps turning up, keeps being competitive, and now gets a draw that lets Neindorf put it in the race without doing anything fancy.
Neindorf is a proper Sale rider with enough volume to trust the pattern, and this gate gives him options: hold a spot, slide to one off the fence, and make the others prove they stay when it turns into a grind from the 600.
The danger is Duke Of Clarence (barrier 7). He has placed in one of two trips to Sale, and in a staying maiden I respect the older horse who has been around the pain before. If he lands midfield with cover and builds into it, he’s the one who can make my pick earn it late.

Race 2: Johnson Plumbing & Gas Mdn Plate — 13:40, 1319m
This is the first proper “tell me what you are” race on the card, because the best horse might already be in the field and just needs a normal run. I’m with Holding Captive (barrier 8). One start, one second. That’s often the Maher setup: debut, show talent, then win before the handicapper gets involved.
The wide draw is the knock, but Ben Allen can make wide gates look like a choice, and his Sale record is the one outlier today you don’t ignore. If he presses across and finds cover, the race becomes about who has the best turn of foot, not who got the softest lane.
Galactic Force (barrier 1) is the danger because he’s the opposite profile: he’s already been around the track (placed on his only Sale run) and he draws to get every favour. If the leaders overdo it and the fence is the place to be, he’s the one that makes you sweat the last 100.

Race 3: Programmed Property Services Mdn Plate — 14:15, 1547m
This is where I want to lean into the horse that keeps knocking. No Savings (barrier 1) has been living in second place land and the latest run still had him right there again. From gate 1 at 1550 metres, Nugent doesn’t need to be a genius. Hold the rail, control the metres, and make the others loop you.
The obvious pushback is the “finds one better” angle, and that’s fair, but this is the right kind of race to break that streak: mixed form around him, a clean draw, and a trip that should let him build rather than sprint.
The danger is Fatty Finn (barrier 3). Two starts for a second and a seventh is a classic learning curve, and Zac Spain is the type to roll into a good spot and pinch it if the favourite starts thinking about being brave late.
Staking: Win bet No Savings. Keep Fatty Finn for exactas if you’re playing multiples.
Race 4: Sale Mowers & Chainsaws Mdn Plate — 14:50, 1100m
The market will probably try to talk you into the new ones, but I’m sticking with the horse who’s already shown he can measure up in this grade. He’s Fierce (barrier 9) gets the nod off that 7 and 3 profile: it’s not flashy, but it screams “I’m close” in a maiden sprint where plenty won’t run a strong 1100.
The wide gate forces the ride. Jennings likely has to roll forward, and that’s fine here. If he crosses without burning every match, He’s Fierce becomes hard to get past because the others will be under pressure earlier than they like.
The danger is Nar Nar Goon (barrier 4). Stokes has a small but meaningful Sale sample and he places them well here. If Nar Nar Goon lands one one with cover and gets the right split, he’s the one who can pounce while my pick is still trying to balance up off the bend.
Staking: Win bet He’s Fierce if the price is fair. If he’s short from the wide draw, go each-way instead.
Race 5: Kress Robot Mowers (Bm66) — 15:25, 1100m
This is the best betting race on the meeting because it’s got a clear story and it’s not a guessing game about improvement. Mainmankash (barrier 5) has the right form line (2 and 1 last two starts), the right map, and a rider who knows the track.
He also brings the most important version of “course form” for a lightly raced type: he placed on his only start at Sale. That’s not a trend, but it is a tick that he handles the circuit. From this draw, Maskiell can let him slide into the first four and get first crack when they swing.
The danger is Freshen (barrier 2). One run, one win. Gelagotis has a neat Sale profile in small volume and when they bring a progressive three-year-old into a 66 sprint, they’re not coming for the scenery. If Freshen gets the run of the race from gate 2, Mainmankash has to be the better horse, not just the better setup.

Race 6: Johnson Plumbing & Gas (Bm62) — 16:00, 1319m
Here’s the contrast that matters: the reliable mare with weight and the lightly raced three-year-olds with upside. I’m backing the reliability. Rosa Aotearoa (barrier 1) has the form string that tells you she turns up to win races, and the inside draw lets Stackhouse give her the softest run in the race even under 61.5kg.
This doesn’t need to be pretty. If she holds the front third on the fence and makes them come around her, she’ll give you every chance to collect. Stackhouse rides Sale well enough in volume to trust his judgement, and this is exactly the kind of race where saving ground is the whole game.
The danger is Two To Tango (barrier 6). He’s a three-year-old who has already shown he can win (9 then 1), and he gets Ben Allen, which is a statement booking anywhere and especially at this track. If Allen gets him into a stalking spot and the tempo is strong enough to expose the topweight late, he’s the one that runs over them.
