BEST BET 🏆   

Race 5 No. 4 KIN ($2.80) 

Keen on KIN in Race 5. The Godolphin mare has been a little bit costly of late and went down at a short price at Moonee Valley on December 30 over the 1200m but she was posted wide without cover that day from the wide barrier before running on for 3rd behind Pink Beau Ty. Jungle Jim was runner-up in that race and has since won well at Flemington. The daughter of Impending has performed well down the Flemington straight in the past and gets her chance here. 

NEXT BEST 🥈   

Race 3 No. 9  SHAIME ($5.50) 

We put SHAIME into the blackbook after her run last weekend behind Chester Warrior and the four-year-old can go close on the short back-up. Her recent run came over the 1000m and she settled back in the small field and the race developed into a sit-sprint with Chester Warrior scoring. Shaime produced the fastest last 200m to go 1.8 lengths faster than standard benchmark and should take improvement out of that at what will be her third run off a long break. Step up to the 1200m looks ideal and the Cliff Brown-trained galloper was a third up winner over the 1200m at her initial preparation. 

BEST VALUE 💰   

Race 8 No. 9 SLANE  ($10) 

SLANE can go on with the job in Race 8. The Enver Jusufovic-trained galloper will be out to make it back-to-back wins after scoring at Cranbourne on January 5 over the 1600m. That came in a BenchMark 64 and he crossed over to sit outside the leader before digging deep in the final 100m to score. This is harder but the son of Highland Reel comes into this third up and at his debut preparation he stuck on well over the 1700m in harder company than this when third up at Flemington before finishing runner-up over the 2040m in an Open Handicap at Moonee Valley. The son of Highland Reel has the speed to overcome the wide barrier and can feature at the business end.
