Sunshine Coast Preview & Best Bets – 22/10/2023

Sunshine Coast Tips for Sunday, October 22

Our form expert provides Sunshine Coast tips for today’s horse racing at Sunshine Coast Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.7  LOOSE UNIT  ($3 with bet365)

The Stuart Kendrick-trained LOOSE UNIT is in top-shelf form this preparation and looks set to continue his good work here today. Last start, the Shalaa gelding made it four-straight top-two finishes when he beat all but home in a BM60, here over the mile trip with Ryan Wiggins aboard. He steps-up slightly in grade but will enjoy the 2.5kg weight relief he has here. Wiggins also partnered the galloper for his maiden win two starts back and makes a rare Sunday visit to the track to steer him home again today. The four-year-old has only missed one podium finish here from nine previous starts at the track and with a clear run home today, he should prove hard to beat.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7:  No.12  SLEIGH QUEEN  ($7 with Ladbrokes)

The Annabel Neasham-trained SLEIGH QUEEN is first-up today and back in the blinkers again, looks a top chance to challenge for victory here. Last start, the Shalaa mare ended her last campaign by finishing fifth in a Class 2 Hcp, here over 1400m. Today, she returns from a 19-week break but comes off two trials where she placed in both. Ben Thompson has his first ride on the mare today as she gets the gun-run from gate one. Already a winner when first-up and a two-time winner at the track, a trouble-free run here can see her bringing up win number three today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.14  RAFALE JOLIE  ($6 with Bet Right)

Gold Coast galloper, RAFALE JOLIE, looks a promising type who is second-up today and will play a role here at odds. Last start, the Trust In A Gust filly changed stables during her 18-week break (formerly with the Tom Button stable) and on fresh legs, came out and clobbered her rivals, here in a 1000m Maiden Hcp. With regular rider Cejay Graham aboard, she never looked in doubt, crossing the line 1.5 lengths ahead of the 11-strong field that day. Here, she returns to where it all happened and is ideally drawn in gate three today. Graham will be out looking for back-to-back victories here and down 4.5kgs on that last-start win, the three-year-old looks the goods at great odds.
