Overview
Giggenbach has banked $104,800 from five runs in the past 90 days, and lines up in the Kirin Ichiban Benchmark 80 at Morphettville as the horse everyone else has to catch. Four top-three finishes in that stretch, two of them wins, plus a win and a third from two visits to this track, make Giggenbach the anchor of the card.
Behind that sits a busy nine-race Saturday program on a Good surface, starting at 12:07PM and finishing with the Schweppes Handicap at 5:41PM. Phillip and Tommy Stokes send six runners and own one of the best place records at the track, Olivia Marie has never missed the frame at Morphettville, and Stockman’s Choice chases a third straight win. These Morphettville racing tips go race by race, then finish with the bets we’d actually make, a banker for the multis and an each-way angle for the quaddie legs.
Reading the Morphettville card
There’s real course form on this card, which isn’t always the case on a Saturday in Adelaide. Plenty of today’s runners have been around this track five or more times, so the numbers below carry weight rather than noise.

Morphettville racing tips: race by race
Race 1: Sportsbet Get On Extra Mdn Plate, 12:07PM, 1050m
Confucious Flyer ran second at the only start so far, and that one run came at Morphettville, which is more relevant form than most of this maiden field can offer. Callow takes the ride from barrier 8, with the best strike rate here of the regular riders on the card. The 58kg is the same as the other older maidens carry.
Madam Moneybags is the one to respect. The last run was a second, first-up after a spell, the weight is 54kg with Brooke King aboard, and the Maund and Letts-Maund stable has placed with five of its nine runners here. Any improvement second-up and the top pick is in trouble. Confucious Flyer to win, small saver on Madam Moneybags.
Race 2: Greenway Turf Solutions Hcp (C2), 12:42PM, 1200m
Can anyone stop Olivia Marie hitting the frame here? Nobody has managed it yet. Three visits to Morphettville have produced a win and two placings, and the past 90 days have brought five runs, a win and three more placings, worth $52,850. The last start was a second, so the form hasn’t dipped.
Kayla Kruzen brings the more spectacular recent record, with two wins from three runs in the past 90 days, but the latest run was an eighth and the only look at this track ended in tenth. Codename has been consistent rather than dangerous. Olivia Marie is the multi leg. Win bet, and Olivia Marie goes in the banker slot below.
Race 3: Sportsbet Race Previews Hcp (68), 1:22PM, 1050m
Fourteen sprinters, 1050m and a fair share of speed from the inside gates. That shape suits a horse who can hold a spot just off the lead and kick, and Boyd fits it. Three starts in the past 90 days have produced a win and a second, an average finish of 2.33, and Boyd has won one of three runs at Morphettville. Jordyn Weatherley has ridden four winners from 18 rides here.
Over Yonder is the each-way type. Three top-three finishes from five course starts, one of them a win, make this the most reliable local performer in the race, and the weight is a light 54.5kg from barrier 2. Obucci, a winner and two placings from four recent runs for the Stokes stable, is the other with claims. Boyd to win, Over Yonder for the place.
Race 4: Ule Hoof Oil Hcp (C1), 2:02PM, 1500m
White Pointer has had one start and won it. That’s the whole case, and in a Class 1 full of horses who keep finding ways to lose, it’s a decent one. Michael Hickmott’s three-year-old carries 57.5kg and gets Jacob Opperman, who has placed on 33 of 77 Morphettville rides.
The worry is Belle From Hell, top three in three of four runs in the past 90 days and in at 51.5kg. Image Artist has been around here six times without winning but has placed twice. White Pointer to win; this is a race to keep the stake modest given the thin form line.
Race 5: Peter Elberg Funerals Hcp (62), 2:42PM, 1200m
The market problem in this race is simple: Stockman’s Choice has won the last two and now carries 58.5kg, and the question is whether the weight catches up. Two runs in the past 90 days, two wins, $25,000 in prize money. There’s no course form to go on, and the stable’s numbers here are modest, with two winners from 59 starters for Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor.
That still leaves Stockman’s Choice as the most progressive horse in the field. Garcon Renard is the danger with Holder aboard: a win from two runs in the past 90 days, and two placings from four course starts. Canny Miss, a winner at one of two recent runs, is lightly raced and drawn 4. Stockman’s Choice to win, Garcon Renard as the saver.
Race 6: Freeman Wauchope Timber Hcp (68), 3:22PM, 1800m
Mr Trafficanti has been to Morphettville four times and placed in all four, with one of them a win. The eight-year-old has also been busy, with six runs in the past 90 days for four top-three finishes including a win, and $50,650 in prize money. At 55.5kg with Tala Hutchinson, the weight is well below most of the field, which matters over 1800m.
Australia Forever is the main danger. Three placings from six course runs, two of them wins, Callow in the saddle and the Stokes stable behind. The last start was a sixth, which is why we lean the other way. Somewhere Soon has two course wins from five starts with Holder up and can’t be left out. Mr Trafficanti each-way is the play: the horse places so often here that the bet nearly takes care of itself.
Race 7: Kirin Ichiban (Bm80), 4:04PM, 2000m
This is the feature of the day and the best betting race on the card. Giggenbach has been building through the spring. The form line reads 3-4-2-3-1-1, the last two of those wins, and the past 90 days have produced four top-three finishes from five runs, two of them wins, for $104,800. Nobody else in the race comes close to that money. Two visits to Morphettville have brought a win and a third.
The stable adds another layer. Matthew Price and Matthew Kent Jnr have only 23 starters here, but five have won and 13 have placed, which is the best place rate of any trainer with real volume on the card. Caitlin Tootell has ridden 16 winners from 120 Morphettville rides. At 55.5kg from barrier 5, Giggenbach gets a sensible weight and a gate to settle midfield.
Tyusix is the danger. Seven Morphettville runs for five placings, one a win, and six runs in the past 90 days for four placings including a win, worth $61,600. The weight is just 51kg with Shayleigh Ingelse, who has ridden six winners from 33 rides here. If the tempo is strong and Tyusix gets cover from barrier 3, expect a big finish. Talisay, with three placings including a win from seven course starts, rounds out the exacta. Giggenbach to win, with an exacta of Giggenbach over Tyusix and Talisay.
Race 8: Sportsbet Green Tick (Bm84), 4:54PM, 1200m
Light The Night has the best course record in the field: five Morphettville runs, four placings, two of them wins. Holder rides for A J Gluyas, a stable with 17 winners from 134 starters here, and the four-year-old gets in at 55kg. The last four runs read 1-2-2-5.
From The Block is the one the market may be underrating. Eight course runs for four placings including a win, and the past 90 days have been the best stretch yet: five runs, three placings, two of them wins, and $66,500 in prize money. The Stalker has won two of eight starts here and has a win and another placing from three recent runs. Light The Night to win, From The Block each-way.
Race 9: Schweppes Hcp (62), 5:41PM, 1600m
The Stokes stable has two in the last, and the better recent form belongs to Taupo Tiger. Five runs in the past 90 days have brought four placings including a win, the last start was a second, and Holder rides from barrier 1. That inside gate over 1600m should let Taupo Tiger find the fence and save ground.
Bargain Boy is the stablemate and the course horse: seven runs at Morphettville for four placings including a win, and both runs in the past 90 days were placings. Shalhavmusik, with three placings including a win from six recent runs, is the outsider worth including. Taupo Tiger to win, and a quinella with Bargain Boy covers the stable.

Where the money goes
NAP: Giggenbach (Race 7, 4:04PM). The only horse on the card to have earned six figures in the past three months, and the race sets up for a midfield run.
Value: From The Block (Race 8, 4:54PM). Two wins from the last five and still likely to be priced behind Light The Night. Markets weren’t open when this was written, so check the racecard for the best price.
Banker: Olivia Marie (Race 2, 12:42PM). Three Morphettville starts, three top-three finishes, and four placings from the last five runs. The safest leg for multis.
Each-way: Mr Trafficanti (Race 6, 3:22PM). Four from four in the frame at this track and a weight drop on the field.
Course angle: Phillip and Tommy Stokes. They place with 34 of their 61 Morphettville starters and run six today, including Taupo Tiger and Bargain Boy in the last. Include them in the place pools and exotics.
If Giggenbach wins this the way the form suggests, the Price and Kent stable will have the Adelaide staying races to themselves for the rest of spring.
