Murray Bridge Racing Tips 28 Oct 2026: Immortal Spirit Again?

Overview

Immortal Spirit has won his last two starts, and in four runs over the past 90 days he has finished in the first three three times. That makes him the form horse of the whole Wednesday card, and he lines up in Race 6, a Bm58 over 1400m at 4:40PM.

These Murray Bridge racing tips cover seven races on a track rated Good to Soft, starting at 1:45PM with a maiden sprint and closing with a Bm56 over 1000m at 5:15PM. The first three races are maidens, the back four are handicaps, and the quaddie runs from Race 4 to Race 7. No bookmaker had a market up for this meeting when this was written, so there are no prices below; the case for each horse rests on form, connections and course records. One rider to keep an eye on all afternoon is N Callow, who has hit the frame in 14 of his 26 rides here.

Reading the Murray Bridge card

Good to Soft ground rewards horses that keep finding through the line, and that matters more than usual on a card where four of the seven races are run at 1400m or further. Course form among the horses is thin. Deficit has eight starts here, and only a handful of others have three or more, so the horse tables would be mostly blanks. The riders are a different story: plenty of them ride here week in, week out.

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Rose Hammond 20 5 12 25.0 60.0
N Callow 26 3 14 11.5 53.8
Jake Toeroek 49 6 22 12.2 44.9
Teagan Voorham 67 4 25 6.0 37.3
Rochelle Milnes 68 4 25 5.9 36.8
Jacob Opperman 36 5 13 13.9 36.1
Todd Pannell 90 11 32 12.2 35.6
J Holder 97 12 34 12.4 35.1

Among the stables, David Jolly & Justin Potter stand well clear. They have won with eight of their 26 runners here and placed with 18, and they have one runner today.

Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
David Jolly & Justin Potter 26 8 18 30.8 69.2
W F Francis & G Kent 33 3 13 9.1 39.4
M J Seyers 42 5 15 11.9 35.7
G & N Searle & B Callanan 32 0 9 0.0 28.1
Garret Lynch 59 2 12 3.4 20.3

M J Seyers is the busiest trainer on the day with five runners spread across three races, and he wins with about one in eight of his starters here. Garret Lynch has sent out more horses to this track than anyone else on the card, but two winners from 59 is a warning against following the stable blindly.

Murray Bridge predictions, race by race

Race 1: Norma & Bushman’s Tanks Mdn Plate, 1:45PM, 1000m

A short-course maiden for older horses, and the one I want is the runner with the least racing behind her. Katrina’s Legacy finished second on her only start, which puts her ahead of most of these on what they have actually shown. Several of her rivals have had plenty of chances: Out Ontario has run four times in the last 90 days without placing, and Dedset Magic has three runs in that window for a best of sixth.

The danger is Mr Kimble. He has placed in two of his three Murray Bridge starts and gets Todd Pannell, who has ridden 11 winners here. His last start was poor, though, and he is still a maiden after five runs. Katrina’s Legacy has the outside gate to deal with from barrier 8, but in an eight-horse field that is a small worry.

Win bet on Katrina’s Legacy, small stakes because one run is a thin base.

Race 2: Coonara Mdn Plate, 2:20PM, 1800m

Can anyone stop Empire Ruler finally getting his win? He has run five times in the last 90 days and finished in the first three every time, with three straight seconds to close out that run, the latest at Strathalbyn on 21 October. He also placed on his only visit to this track. N Callow and Luke O’Connor have teamed up five times and hit the frame in four of them, so the booking is a settled one.

Over 1800m the stayers sort themselves out, and Empire Ruler has done his best work at middle distances. Swan Dance is the danger. Her form line reads 3-2-3-3-3, so she rarely runs a bad race either, and she comes in at 54.5kg against Empire Ruler‘s 58kg. That weight swing is the one thing that could tip it.

Empire Ruler to win, and he goes in every multi today.

Race 3: Team Poly Tanks Mdn Plate, 2:55PM, 1400m

Fifteen maidens and a lot of placings without wins, so this comes down to who is still improving. Pocket Pyro has had two starts, running third and then second, and she carries 54kg on a day when several of her rivals lump 58kg. Jake Stephens has only had seven runners at this track, but two of them won.

Pretty Morsel is the most reliable horse in the race and that is also the problem with her. Four placings from seven runs in the past 90 days says she will be there at the finish, but seven runs without a win says she keeps finding one too good. Never Pegasus placed on his only Murray Bridge start and has two placings from four recent runs, so he belongs in the mix too.

Pocket Pyro is the value of the day here. Win and place on her, with Pretty Morsel the saver in the exacta.

Race 4: Davey Water Hcp (C2), 3:30PM, 1400m

The stable to respect here is David Jolly & Justin Potter, who win with almost a third of their Murray Bridge runners. Royal Muse is their entry, and she drops right to the bottom of the weights at 51.5kg with Stephanie Wright. Her form line shows a win two starts back and then a flat run last time, so she is not one to trust at short odds.

I’d rather side with Je City. He has run third at each of his last two starts, has two placings from three runs in the past 90 days, and placed on his only start at this track. D Caboche keeps the ride. Lunarshot is the other one with a win to his name, having won one of his two Murray Bridge starts, but his recent runs have tailed off.

This is a race where a place bet makes more sense than a win bet. Je City each-way, with Royal Muse the danger if the stable has her back on track.

Race 5: Vinidex & Philmac Hcp (60), 4:05PM, 1200m

Brazen Queen versus Nicaloha is the race. Brazen Queen has been the more consistent, with a win and three placings from five runs in the past 90 days, and she was second last time. She has placed in one of her two starts here, and Kayla Crowther rides at 58.5kg.

Nicaloha comes in off a win and has two placings from three runs in the window, but he carries the joint top weight of 60kg. Barrier 1 helps him save ground, and N Callow is the in-form rider for the course, so he is a real danger. Aloha Blue also has a win from five recent runs and placed once from three starts here.

Brazen Queen to win. If you want a saver, take Nicaloha in the quinella.

Race 6: Dab Pumps (Bm58), 4:40PM, 1400m

Two wins in a row, and three placings from four runs over the past 90 days: that is the record Immortal Spirit takes into this Bm58. His latest win came at Halidon on 11 October with Caitlyn Munro aboard, and she and trainer G Karayannis have won two of their seven races together. He carries 56.5kg from barrier 4.

The test is the rise in grade, from a Hcp 52 win at Halidon to a Bm58 here. On what the rest of the field has shown, it is not a big jump. Shalhavmusik is the main danger. He was a winner last start and has three placings from six recent runs, though his five starts at Murray Bridge have produced no placings. Frontpoint also has a recent win and gets a light 54.5kg.

Deficit is the course horse, with a win and three placings from eight starts here, but his last two runs were sixth and a failure, so he is one for the exotics at most.

Immortal Spirit is the NAP. Win bet.

Race 7: Orange Pumps & Aap Industries (Bm56), 5:15PM, 1000m

Hard to have a strong view in a 15-horse sprint, but Chilli Reaper gets the vote. He won at Mount Gambier on 7 October in a Hcp 56, his only run in the past 90 days, and Jacob Opperman rides for Jamie Opperman. That partnership has five wins and 11 placings from 19 starts.

Rich Lady is the each-way play. She placed in both her runs in the past 90 days, was second last time, and Jake Toeroek hits the frame in close to half his rides here. Eclair Vitality is also coming off a win and has two placings from three recent runs.

Chilli Reaper to win, Rich Lady each-way.

Where the money goes

NAP: Immortal Spirit (Race 6, 4:40PM). Two wins on the bounce and a partnership that has already won twice together. The Bm58 grade is a small step up, not a wall.

Value: Pocket Pyro (Race 3, 2:55PM). Third then second in her only two starts, and she gets 4kg from the top weights. No market was up when this was written, but an improving filly in a field of exposed maidens tends to be underrated.

Banker: Empire Ruler (Race 2, 2:20PM). Five placings from five recent runs, and a jockey and trainer who have placed in four of their five races together. The safest leg on the card.

Each-way: Je City (Race 4, 3:30PM). Two straight thirds and a placing on his only Murray Bridge run.

Course angle: N Callow rides Empire Ruler, Nicaloha and three others today, and he places in more than half his rides at this track. Use him as a filter for the placings.

If Empire Ruler finally breaks his maiden here, the O’Connor stable will have a horse ready to climb through the grades before summer.
