Overview
Riverbend Gold has won two of its last three starts and placed in all three, and it lines up in the last race at Albury tonight in a Class 2 that looks like it was written for a horse in that kind of form. Whether it can make it three wins from four is the question the whole card builds towards.
It is a twilight meeting, eight races on a Good track, starting at 2:45PM and running through to a 7:00PM finish. The fields are big and the betting markets were only open on the first two races when this was written, so most of what follows leans on form, course records and the people in the saddle. These Albury racing tips cover every race, a set of plays to finish, and a look at which jockeys and stables actually win here. B McDougall and the D Scott stable are the combination to note before anything else: eight wins and 16 placings from 26 runners together at this track, and they have three chances on the card.
Albury racing tips: reading the card
A Good track at Albury should suit the on-pacers early, but the 1531m and 1640m races give the backmarkers enough straight to come into it. Course form is spread thin across the fields, though a handful of runners have been here often enough to tell us something.
| Horse | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Cider | 6 | 0 | 2 | 0% | 33% |
| Strategic Defense | 5 | 0 | 1 | 0% | 20% |
| Iroquai | 4 | 1 | 2 | 25% | 50% |
| Distant Stripes | 4 | 0 | 2 | 0% | 50% |
| Sensesational Star | 4 | 0 | 1 | 0% | 25% |
| Bifurcation | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0% | 33% |
None of the regulars wins here often, which matters: the course-form horses are placegetters at best, and the winners tonight are more likely to come from runners in good current form.
The riders are a different story. Brodie Loy has only 21 Albury rides but has won seven of them, and the top two in the table have both had 54 rides here.
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brodie Loy | 21 | 7 | 13 | 33% | 62% |
| Brittany Button | 54 | 11 | 28 | 20% | 52% |
| M Aitken | 10 | 2 | 5 | 20% | 50% |
| B McDougall | 54 | 13 | 26 | 24% | 48% |
| C J Parish | 46 | 7 | 20 | 15% | 43% |
| J Duffy | 33 | 4 | 13 | 12% | 39% |
| Trainer | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| K A Davison | 17 | 6 | 10 | 35% | 59% |
| C D Widdison | 25 | 4 | 12 | 16% | 48% |
| Luke Pepper | 13 | 1 | 6 | 8% | 46% |
| MS D Scott | 42 | 8 | 18 | 19% | 43% |
| Michael Travers | 35 | 4 | 10 | 11% | 29% |
| Shilleagh Meyervale | 31 | 0 | 5 | 0% | 16% |
K A Davison is the trainer to respect, with six winners from 17 Albury runners, while Shilleagh Meyervale has yet to win from 31 tries here.

Albury race by race
Race 1: Twin City Truck Centre Country Boosted Mdn Hcp, 2:45PM, 1531m
Lull Us Away keeps knocking on the door and this looks a soft enough maiden for it to walk through. It has placed five times from six runs over the past 90 days without winning, ran second last start, and filled a place at its only Albury run. Ella Bent takes the ride for R T Stubbs, who has five Albury winners from 25 runners.
Smokin’anniversary is the market leader at $4.00 with Unibet, but it hasn’t placed in two runs here and the form line is thin. The real danger may be the debutant Roscomain Bill, at $6.00 with Unibet, because B McDougall and D Scott rarely waste a booking at this track. Distant Stripes has two placings from four Albury starts and will be around the finish too.
At $5.00 with BetRight, Lull Us Away is an each-way bet.
Race 2: Johnsons Mme Plate (C1), 3:25PM, 1750m
Does Bottas deserve to be $1.95? The market says yes, but over the last 90 days it has one placing from two runs and no win, and that’s a short price for a horse whose form string ends 3-0-6-2. C J Parish and C D Widdison make a sound pairing, so it will run well, but the price leaves nothing in it.
Bennelong Time is the one I want. It won its only Albury start on 24 October with B McDougall aboard for D Scott, has won one and placed in both runs over the past 90 days, and jumps from barrier one. That McDougall and Scott record at Albury, eight wins from 26 together, is backing a horse that already knows how to win here.
Red Light Rachel, also a last-start winner, is the danger at $5.50. Back Bennelong Time to win at $6.00 with Unibet.
Race 3: Wello’s Plumbing Country Boosted (Bm58), 4:05PM, 1285m
Seaton Moon has had one start and won it, collecting $19,700 along the way. That makes this its second run and first at Albury, which is a lot to ask in a Benchmark 58, but the step up from a maiden win isn’t a big one and MS C Keatings rides for Matthew Kelley.
Michael Travers runs three here in Santolini, Teresprit and Iroquai. Iroquai has the best course record of the trio, a win and two placings from four Albury starts, while Santolini ran second last start and has a win and two placings from four runs in the past 90 days. Reds City, with a win and two placings from four recent runs, is the other one to have on side.
Seaton Moon to win, with a saver on Iroquai. No market was open when this was written.
Race 4: Twilight Hcp, 4:40PM, 1285m
Brodie Loy has won a third of his Albury rides, and he rides the class runner in Keikoku. The topweight has a win and two placings from three runs over the past 90 days and has earned $35,850 in that time. The weight is the knock, but the form says it can carry it.
Pretty Penguin ran second last start, won three starts back, and placed at its only Albury start. It gets plenty of weight off Keikoku and is the clear danger. Coco de Luxe won one of its two Albury runs and adds some interest at a price.
Keikoku to win.
Race 5: Baxters Concrete (Bm58), 5:15PM, 984m
Fifteen runners over 984m means a scramble, and Carlow Rose is the one with the profile to handle it. It won last start, has placed in all three runs over the past 90 days, and has a win and a second from two Albury starts. Brittany Button, with 11 wins from 54 Albury rides, takes the ride for MS E Haworth from barrier 10.
She’s Elusive is two from two at Albury, which demands respect, but its last two runs were unplaced and its only start in the past 90 days was a tenth. Hazardous won its only start and draws barrier two, so it’s the one with upside. Winter Hail has three placings from four recent runs without a win and can fill a place again.
Carlow Rose to win, and it’s the banker for multis.
Race 6: Hutchinson Civil Super Mdn Plate, 5:55PM, 1285m
Samaka hasn’t missed a place in four career starts, finishing second once and third three times. It’s the most reliable horse in a maiden with plenty of first-starters, though barrier 17 means C J Parish has some work to do.
Snakeunderfoot ran third on debut and draws barrier four, which is a big edge here. Kutina Bay was third at its only start, which was at Albury, and Josh Richards rides for Michael Travers. Big Storm ran third last start as well. Plenty of these are a run or two away.
A watch race for the win. Samaka each-way is the play, with the draw keeping the price up.
Race 7: Mws Wealth Professionals (Bm66), 6:30PM, 1640m
Gold Tracker and Annotate have both won at Albury, and they come in from different directions. Gold Tracker won last start and has one win from two Albury runs, and B McDougall rides for Michael Travers. Annotate won its only Albury start, but it ran seventh last time out after a win before that.
Gold Tracker is the one in form, with a win and two placings from five runs over the past 90 days. Slate Ripper is the sneaky one among the lightweights: a win and two placings from six recent runs and a third last start.
Gold Tracker to win, with Annotate the danger. No prices were up when this was written.
Race 8: Gazebo & Shade Centre Hcp (C2), 7:00PM, 1531m
This is the race of the night, and Riverbend Gold is the horse to beat. It has won two of its three runs over the past 90 days and placed in the other, earning $32,950, and it won last start. It has also won one of its two Albury runs, so the track isn’t a question.
C J Parish rides for Shane Bloomfield and draws barrier six in a 20-horse field. That is the right gate in a race this size: close enough to get cover, not so close that it gets buried on the fence.
Mishima is the danger. It has three placings from five recent runs, has the lightest weight in the field, and draws barrier one with Cassidy Hill aboard. Lord Limerick gives McDougall and Scott a third chance on the card, and Noir Vitesse placed at its only Albury start.
Riverbend Gold to win, and it’s the NAP.

Where the money goes
NAP: Riverbend Gold (Race 8, 7:00PM). Two wins and a second from its last three runs, a win at Albury, and a good draw for a 20-horse race. It’s the most complete form line on the card.
Value: Bennelong Time (Race 2, 3:25PM). $6.00 with Unibet for a horse that won here last time out with the same rider and trainer. The favourite hasn’t won in 90 days.
Banker: Carlow Rose (Race 5, 5:15PM). Placed in all three recent runs and in both Albury starts, and won last time.
Each-way: Samaka (Race 6, 5:55PM). Four starts, four placings. The wide gate keeps the price honest.
Course angle: B McDougall and D Scott. Eight wins and 16 placings from 26 Albury runners together, with Roscomain Bill, Bennelong Time and Lord Limerick on tonight’s card.
If McDougall and Scott keep winning at this rate, every Albury card from here will start with checking what they’ve entered.
