Cranbourne Racing Tips 6 Nov 2026: Brutal World Again?

Overview

Brutal World has won both of its starts in the last three months, and on Friday night it gets a Cranbourne handicap with nothing in it that has shown the same kind of streak. That is the starting point for these Cranbourne racing tips, and Race 5 at 8:15PM is where the night’s main bet sits.

The rest of the card is a mixed bag. Four maidens open the meeting, and two of them are thin enough that the right answer may be a small bet or none at all. The back half is better: a 1044m sprint where four runners won their most recent start, a 16-horse 1531m handicap, and a 1750m closer where C W McDonald saddles Hedjet. McDonald has won with nine of his 17 Cranbourne runners, which is the stand-out number on the whole card.

Eight races on turf, rated Good to Soft, first jump 6:15PM and last at 9:45PM. Read on for a view on every race, the night’s bets, and the stables worth following here.

Cranbourne racing tips: reading the card

The going is Good to Soft for all eight races, and every race is run at one of four trips: 1044m, 1312m, 1531m or 1750m. Most of the horse course form is light. Only two runners have five or more starts here, and plenty of the maidens have never been to the track, so the connections carry more weight than usual tonight.

Horse Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Jewel Bay 5 2 3 40 60
Finance Shogun 5 1 3 20 60
Magnabelle Royale 3 2 2 67 67
La Velocita 3 0 2 0 67
Sumo Sandy 3 0 2 0 67

The jockeys with real volume here are led by J Noonan, who has ridden 50 times at Cranbourne for seven wins. Celine Gaudray has the better strike rate from a decent sample, and Patrick Moloney wins more than a quarter of his rides at the track.

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Caitlin Hollowood 18 3 11 16.7 61.1

Patrick Moloney 22 6 9 27.3 40.9
J Noonan 50 7 20 14.0 40.0

Among the trainers, two numbers jump out. C W McDonald has placed with 14 of 17 runners here, and Lloyd Kennewell with nine of 11. Ben, Will and JD Hayes bring the biggest sample, 77 runners for 17 wins.

Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
C W McDonald 17 9 14 52.9 82.4

Cranbourne race by race

Race 1: The Valley @ Southside Cranbourne Mdn Plate, 6:15PM, 1750m

Sondera is the one. Its three runs read sixth, fourth, second, which is exactly the line you want from a maiden stepping up, and C J Waller has won with four of nine Cranbourne starters. Jye McNeil rides, and from barrier 3 he can take a sit just behind the speed and let the 1750m do the sorting.

Cowboykickedfive is the obvious danger and the reason this is not a bigger bet. It has placed in four of its six runs over the last three months without winning, and Reece Goodwin places with more than half of the stable’s runners here. The worry is the wide gate, barrier 11. Parera, placed in two of its last four, is the other one to include.

Win bet on Sondera, with Cowboykickedfive and Parera underneath in the trifecta.

Race 2: Ladbrokes More On Tote Win Mdn Plate, 6:45PM, 1312m

How much do you trust one run? That is the whole question here, because the two horses that matter have had one start each. Lonnegan ran third on debut for M M Laurie, a stable that has won with ten of its 27 Cranbourne runners, more than a third of them.

Engulf finished fifth first time out, which looks modest, but it is trained by C W McDonald and that record here demands respect. If the stable has found more since that run, Engulf is the one to beat Lonnegan.

Vespers is the most experienced of the fancied runners, third last start, but a maiden with four runs and no win is not one to take short. Small win bet on Lonnegan, saver on Engulf.

Race 3: Rsl Poppy Appeal Mdn Plate, 7:15PM, 1531m

Hard to have a confident view. Teen Torque is the pick on the strength of its last run, a third, after it ran ninth, sixth, ninth and fourth before that. The improvement is real, and it is the only horse in the race with a placing in its last start.

The danger is the unknown. Wollemi debuts for M Price and M Kent Jnr with Celine Gaudray on, and she has won seven of her 34 Cranbourne rides. Action Point, from the G M Begg stable that wins with a quarter of its runners here, ran eighth on debut and should improve.

Each-way on Teen Torque, small. This is a watch race more than a betting one.

Race 4: Mcmahon’s Dairy Mdn Plate, 7:45PM, 1531m

Seinfeld has finished fourth, second and third in three runs and placed at its only Cranbourne start. Clayton Douglas places with more than half of the stable’s runners here, and D W Stackhouse gets the ride from barrier 6, close enough to the inside to avoid wasting ground.

Rock About is the main threat. It ran seventh, then second, then third, and placed in both runs over the last three months. From barrier 12 it needs some luck, which is why it sits second here rather than first.

La Velocita deserves a word for consistency alone. Four straight thirds, placed in two of three Cranbourne runs, and Luke Cartwright jumps from barrier 3. It just has not found the extra bit to win. Full Zoom is the wildcard, a first starter for Lloyd Kennewell, who places with nine of his 11 Cranbourne runners.

Win on Seinfeld, and La Velocita each-way for the place money.

Race 5: Charter Keck Cramer Hcp (66), 8:15PM, 1312m

Brutal World arrives in the best form of anything at the meeting. Its form line reads 4-9-0-8-1-1, so the last two runs are both wins, and those are its only two starts in the last three months. Luke Cartwright rides for Simon Zahra, a pairing that has won at its only start together since the start of 2025.

Barrier 2 should give Cartwright the run of the race. A horse in this sort of form, drawn to sit handy in a nine-horse handicap, is about as straightforward as a Friday night provincial gets.

The danger is Marsept, which won two starts back and ran second last time for M, W and J Hawkes, with L Currie riding. Mykindakandy also won its most recent start, so this is not a one-horse race on paper. Sayalero, a winner in its only run in the last three months, rounds out the four with recent wins.

Brutal World has the stronger profile of the winners, though: two from two, not one. Win bet, and this is the night’s NAP. Saver exacta with Marsept.

Race 6: Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge (Bm70), 8:45PM, 1044m

The market has plenty of options to like here, because three runners won their most recent start: Mr Tickles, Weapon Clear and Room For Bingo. Magnabelle Royale won three starts back. That spread of form is where the value is, and the value is Magnabelle Royale.

It has won two of its three Cranbourne starts, the best record of any horse on the card with more than one visit. Its fifth last start will keep the price up, and M M Laurie‘s strike rate at the track says this placement is deliberate. Bailey Kinninmont rides from barrier 1.

Mr Tickles is the danger. Two wins from four starts in the last three months, a win last time out, and Hayley Spitse aboard. If it brings that form, it is the one Magnabelle Royale has to beat.

Each-way on Magnabelle Royale at a price, and a saver on Mr Tickles.

Race 7: Chef’s Hat (Bm66), 9:15PM, 1531m

Sixteen runners, a handful of recent winners and a field that could be run any number of ways. Zourain has the best of the recent form: two wins from six starts in the last three months, including a win last time out, and Dylan Dean rides for R D Griffiths.

Buzitup also won last start and has won three of its last six, while Discover Lupino turned a third, sixth and third into a win at its latest run. Either could win if Zourain does not bring its last run here. Couldthisbetheone won at one of its two Cranbourne starts and gets J Noonan, the track’s busiest rider.

Kastun Star is the each-way play. It has placed in three of five runs in the last three months, won twice in that time, and won at one of its two Cranbourne starts. Beau Mertens rides.

Jewel Bay is worth a mention for its course record, two wins and three placings from five starts here, but its average finishing position over its five runs in the last three months was worse than eighth.

Small win on Zourain, each-way on Kastun Star.

Race 8: Drummond Golf Hcp (66), 9:45PM, 1750m

C W McDonald finishes the night with Hedjet, and there is no stable on this card with a better Cranbourne record. Nine winners from 17 runners, and 14 of those 17 placed. Hedjet‘s last three runs read second, first, fourth, and it has a second before that from its previous campaign.

Beau Mertens rides from barrier 3. Mertens and McDonald have teamed up 11 times since the start of 2025, for two wins among four placings, so this is a regular booking rather than a one-off.

Surperb Frost is the danger. It won its most recent start and placed at its only Cranbourne run. Mount Sabyinyo also won at its only start here, and Finance Shogun has one win and three placings from five Cranbourne starts, so it will be running on late.

Hedjet is the safest horse on the card. Win bet, and the banker for multis.

Where the money goes

NAP: Brutal World (Race 5, 8:15PM). Two runs in the last three months, two wins, and nothing else in the race can match that. Barrier 2 in a field of nine takes most of the risk out of the run.

Value: Magnabelle Royale (Race 6, 8:45PM). Two wins from three at Cranbourne, and a fifth last start should keep it at a bigger price than that record deserves. No market was open when this was written.

Banker: Hedjet (Race 8, 9:45PM). Second, first and fourth in its last three runs, and its trainer’s record here is the best on the card.

Each-way: La Velocita (Race 4, 7:45PM). Four straight thirds and two placings from three Cranbourne starts. It keeps finding the frame.

Course angle: C W McDonald. Nine winners from 17 Cranbourne runners. The stable has Engulf in Race 2, Shields in Race 4 and Hedjet in Race 8, and all three are worth including.

If McDonald keeps placing four in every five runners sent here, his name on a Cranbourne acceptance list is the first thing to look for.
