BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.5 RUPERTS RED ROCKET ($5.50 with bet365)
The Craig Weeding-trained RUPERTS RED ROCKET has hit the ground running with three podium finishes from his four career starts to date and looks a serious player in this contest as well. Last start, the Dream Ahead gelding cracked it for his maiden win over 1400m at Gundagai with Jake Duffy in the saddle. Duffy played the waiting game sitting mid-field early and when the gaps came, he took advantage of them and burst through in the final 200m and finished best to claim the major prize. Ideally drawn in gate three today, Duffy sticks with him where he looks poised to play the same card again and should prove hard to hold out.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4: No.7 AGENT MOON ($6 with bet365)
The Allan McRae-trained AGENT MOON is second-up here and ticks all the boxes that suggest he is genuine threat in this contest. Last start, the Australian-bred gelding was fresh off a lengthy eight-month break when he impressed by beating all but one home in a BM58, here over 900m. He led from barrier rise and while no match for the winner, held the rest of them at bay while he collected second prize for the event. Billy Owen has steered him to both career-wins to date and returns for today’s assignment. He is a two-time winner when second-up and has saluted at his only run over the distance on this track. Its all there in black and white as they say, and with a trouble-free run here, he should prove hard to beat today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.4 KARAKA LAD ($7 with Ladbrokes)
The Team Hayes-trained KARAKA LAD is second-up here and sporting a gear change that just might give him the edge in this contest. Last start, the Iffraaj gelding resumed from an 18-week spell and clearly in need of the run, finished mid-field in a BM64 over 1100m at Ararat. Noted as a fair effort considering the break and that he carried 61.5kgs for his first run back. He will strip fitter for that run back where he has Lachlan King aboard for his initial ride on the six-year-old. The stable have also fitted winkers for the first time and ideally drawn in gate three, the Lindsay Park galloper looks set to show plenty of improvement at odds today.
