Armidale Tips for Sunday, September 17

Our form expert provides Armidale tips for today’s horse racing at Armidale Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.2  CALGARY KING  ($2.10 with Bet Right)

The Moree-based CALGARY KING has found his mojo and in his current form should prove hard to hold out today. Last start, the Akeed Mofeed gelding destroyed his opposition when he put four lengths on them in a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m on his home track. Ridden a treat by Ash Morgan, he peeled of heels on straightening and left the 11-strong field to sort out the minor money and he dashed away for an easy win in the end. He gets the gun-run from gate one today and has Morgan sticking with him for this assignment. Both career wins have come on a dry track so conditions here are ideal. A trouble-free run today should see him going back-to-back.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2:  No.7  MAGIC FLYER  ($2.20 with Palmerbet)

Former Victorian galloper MAGIC FLYER has his first start for the Luke Morgan stable today and after four starts this time in, looks in the mix here. Last start, the Flying Artie gelding bid farewell to the anti-clockwise racing style when he finished mid-field in a 1400m Maiden on the synthetic track at Pakenham. Today, he is fresh off a 10-week break and from gate three, maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. Aaron Bullock has the reins for this contest and the stable have fitted the tongue tie for the first time. On fresh legs today, he looks a genuine chance in this line-up.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.5  RAZZLE DAZZLE  ($5.30 with BoomBet)

Local galloper RAZZLE DAZZLE resumes today after a year in the paddock and ticks enough boxes to make things interesting here. Last start, the Bull Point mare ended a three-start preparation with an impressive win against Class 2 company, here over 1400m on a Heavy 10 that day. Mikayla Weir gave her the run of the race (one out, one back), and finding the best going, the mare went on to win by almost two lengths on the line. She ran third in a recent trial here, in preparation for her return today. Cassey Williams has the reins for this assignment and after her claim, the mare carries 56kgs, just 1kg over the limit. Dropping sharply in grade for her first-up appearance, and already a winner at the track and on fresh legs, she looks in the mix for a podium finish here.
