BEST BET 🏆
Race 4 No. 2 BONNIE LAD – ($4.85)
There will be plenty of pace and pressure applied by those up front which can help BONNIE LAD to get over the top of them late. Clint Johnston-Porter found a spot around midfield from one-off the fence on Bonnie Lad first-up. The 1100m contest was controlled out in front by the winner Capricorn Man with Bonnie Lad storming home up the middle to run second. The form out of that race has been franked twice since with Capricorn Man repeating the dose a fortnight later. Bonnie Lad also proved the form as CJP switched back to the inside during a fast run race to score over this track and trip at his next race start.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7 No. 9 MY BELLA MAE – ($4)
Local trainer Dion Luciani prepared MY BELLA MAE for a first-up return to Belmont Racecourse following a trial win on the same course. The mare seemed to be one of plenty who became unstuck in tricky conditions as the rain came down. We’ll put a line through that race won by Long Beach and were buoyed by seeing My Bella Mae bounce back with a trial win over Comfort Me. She then translated that to race day form as Paddy Carbery gave her a beautiful trail from midfield near the fence. They pair came off the rails into the straight to come after Red Can Man who had stolen a margin. My Bella Mae now finds a handy weight swing over Red Can Man to help her reverse that result on Saturday.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5 No. 11 THOMAS MAGNUM – ($6.50)
Chris & Michael Gangemi applied the blinkers to THOMAS MAGNUM for the first time as he came back to 1000 metres last start. The horse got his head in the air and wanted to race keenly as the leader slowed the tempo. Thomas Magnum still managed to sprint sharply back towards the fence under Clint Johnston-Porter to run a game second. Thomas Magnum can improve with his second run in the shades and does drop a couple of kilos off that run.
