BEST BET 🏆
Race 6 No. 3 SIREN ASSAULT – ($7)
Cantankerous filly SIREN ASSAULT played-up prior to the start when racing over 1000m here first-up. She became keen on the bridle after beginning well to race behind the leaders as Blue Rocket controlled the speed. That horse came away for an impressive win while Chris Parnham was having his hands full in keeping Siren Assault racing in a straight line. Jumped awkwardly and wanted to lay-in before Parnham used his filly’s speed to go to the front. Siren Assault never gave the others a chance from there and clearly appreciated finding the rail into the straight. She ran time while defeating Bustling who has opened a short-priced fave to win the boys division on Saturday after racing wide throughout.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3 No. 5 PLAYING GAMES – ($6)
We followed PLAYING GAMES with good success last prep before trainer Meryl Hayley got her filly out to black-type races. She settled on the speed second-up for Ladqar Ramoly before racing away and breaking her maiden status as an odds-on pop in Northam. Paid far better as Hayley brought Playing Games to the midweeks in town for another impressive win. Playing Games did not have the speed to match those horses in the higher grade races and is better suited by racing against her own benchmark group. She’s come up with the inside gate on Saturday with a race with some pace in it. Ramoly should be able to find the box-seat for Playing Games for an armchair ride into the race.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8 No. 7 RIPCORD – ($8.50)
A good opening price is enough to tempt us into backing classy three-year-old RIPCORD in the feature race at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday. Haven’t seen him trial this time in so we’ll take it on trust that trainer Luke Fernie has Ripcord right where he wants him first-up. Ripcord caught the attention of punters last prep when coming seemingly from nowhere to down the drifting favourite Oscar’s Fortune in the Placid Ark. Ripcord followed through on this run with placings against the older in the Winterbottom and again in the Gold Rush. Fernie has a potential star in his stable with Ripcord and we look forward to seeing how he goes against some high-class opposition on Saturday.
