Race 9 No. 3 BILLY RAY – ($11.20) 

Kalgoorlie trainer Peter Fernie earned a throw at the stumps in the Peters Stakes with BILLY RAY following his impressive third-up win. Billy Ray was able to get over the top of a RTG72+ who ran along over the mile before coming back to them into the straight. Michael Poy then had a handful of horse in the Group 3 Peters as they again ran along in front over the 1500m. This time the class field did not stop as the winner Mojo Rhythm swept down the outside to score with momentum. Billy Ray wasn’t beaten far despite having to hold momentum into the straight. Probably doesn’t have the ratings to progress further through the grades; however, Billy Ray can certainly be winning back to his own grade during the carnival.

Race 5 No. 3 CLIMB ON TOP – ($6)

Connections of Melbourne Cup Day winner CLIMB ON TOP will be hoping for better luck than last start on Saturday. He cost himself by stepping slowly out of the gates before hunting for a position along the rails. Clint Johnston-Porter had nowhere to go on him in the straight and kept a fair hold on the horse. Climb On Top effectively went around without having which means we’ll just put a line through that race for him. Climb On Top settled near the rear of the field before CJP gave him plenty of room into the straight to score in his previous start. Damien Oliver will no doubt be mindful to ensure that he steps cleanly, and the pair can figure into the finish with even luck in running.

Race 7 No. 4 CUT THE TALK – ($15) 

Jason Whiting allowed CUT THE TALK to stride along in the middle of three horses who set a fast pace over 1000m at Ascot Racecourse. Cut The Talk gave a kick by the top of the straight while the other two who were on the pace dropped off. Cut The Talk was game in defeat as he tried valiantly to deny the fast-finishing Beads who had the drop on them. Cut The Talk ran a sharp time in a strong class while still being eligible for something easier.
