BEST BET 🏆
Race 4 No. 2 RISING LEGEND – ($4.40)
We’ll be interested to see what Morphettville trainer Scott Westover does with RISING LEGEND. It’s been a long time since the horse won, which was a race in town during his first prep. Westover since tried the gelding out to slightly more ground last prep to yield mixed results without winning. Found Jimmy’s Edge a little too sharp in front when resuming over this track and trip. Rising Legend kept coming on into the straight as Declared took the shortcuts to nail Jimmy’s Edge on the line. Declared has won again since while Jimmy’s Edge continues to maintain his good form. They did also run sharp times for the race and it’s one we want to follow out of. The pace won’t be as hot allowing Rising Legend to travel closer for Todd Pannell while in a comfortable position rhythm.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 3 MAY’S WEST – ($5)
Alice Springs apprentice Dakota Gillett finds an opportunity to strike on SA soil as she partners MAY’S WEST. Training Duo John Hickmott & Carrina Riggs take full advantage of Dakota’s three kilo claim from an inside draw. Their in-form mare led and kept fighting to finish second over 1200 metres here two back under Dylan Caboche. The jury is out as to whether May’s West runs 1200 metres and she was much better suited last start. She burnt them off over 1000 metres on a soft 7 track at Naracoorte before giving the slip on straightening. May’s West was too strong in the run and should find a good run behind some good pressure here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6 No. 1 SIXFOOTONE – ($7)
The overnight price about SIXFOOTONE leaves him open as a Value Play for Balaklava Racecourse on Wednesday. Punters will continue to warm towards last start maiden winner Pompeii Empire who will likely follow Sixfootone into the run. That three-year-old holds the upside; however, Sixfootone does come out of some good form races. He led for a long way before fitness gave out over this track and trip when resuming. Followed with a handy second placing in a strong form race at Strathalbyn before being given a slight let-up. Battled strongly at Oakbank as he was nabbed late over 1100 metres. The winner and third placed horse have both performed well again since.
