Ballarat Tips 9/5/2023

BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)

Race 8 No. 5 INTREPID EAGLE- ($3)

This could be an easy kill for INTREPID EAGLE. The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained galloper was 3rd behind the likes of Watadeel and Loco at Sandown over the 1600m two starts ago before bumping into Globe and running 9th behind that galloper over the 1800m. He drops sharply in grade for this and just needs to handle the surface to take this one out.

NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)

Race 5 No 1 MEVIUS- ($7.50)

MEVIUS can be an improver in Race 5 of the day. The five-year-old has had two runs this time in and jumped straight from the 1600m to the 2400m at his most recent start, battling away into 6th position in a BenchMark 70 at Sandown on March 29. This should be much more to his liking. The five-year-old drops to BenchMark 58 and loves the surface, winning twice at the track and trip at his last preparation. He gets the 3kg claim for Jaylah Kennedy and has attracted early support in the betting.

BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 2 No.4 KOROLEV- ($8.50)

KOROLEV looks to be a solid player in Race 2 at Ballarat. The Maher/Eustace galloper didn’t do much when resuming at Ararat on April 20 over the 1308m but that came on a Heavy 8 and I am banking on some improvement from the three-year-old. At his debut preparation, he ran 9th when first up at Sandown before heading to the Ballarat Synthetic and making some good late ground to finish 3rd in a blanket finish behind Sacred Kenshi. The son of Pariah gets back to the surface and ran good time relative to the grade that day. John Allen rides and should give him a nice run from barrier 5.
