Ballina Preview & Best Bets – 25/01/2024
Ballina Tips for Thursday, January 25
Our form expert provides Ballina tips for today’s horse racing at Ballina Racecourse and gives his best bets.
BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.1 EAGLEMONT ($2.50 with Picklebet)
Matt Dun and Brodie Loy team-up again here with EAGLEMONT who is in great form of late and looks every chance of taking home the Cup today. Last start, the Camelot gelding made the trip north from Sydney where he lined-up in a BM85 at Doomben and destroyed his rivals over the mile trip. That turned out to be a solid lead-up for the big race here. He makes his Ballina debut today and from gate two, does no early work as he maps to settle near mid-field with plenty of cover. With plenty of early speed in the race, the seven-year-old should enjoy a nice trail to the turn, then with a clear run home, he gets the last crack at them. Avoiding any dramas today, he looks the one they have to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.7 SPILLIFY ($4.25 with BoomBet)
Matt Dunn saddles-up SPILLIFY here who is in great touch and looks a good chance of bringing up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Spill The Beans mare came off a BM58 win at Lismore (on a Heavy 8) when she franked that effort by beating home similar company on the same track over 1420m. That was her first start for the Matt Dun stable after transferring across from the Billy Healey camp. She sees the Ballina track for the first time today but brings with her, winning form and a liking for wet tracks. Brodie Loy is two from two with the four-year-old and steers the ship again today. On form, she should prove hard to hold out here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.3 ANOTHER SPIRIT ($7.50 with bet365)
Grafton galloper, ANOTHER SPIRIT, is high-flying at the moment and looks in the mix to bring up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Spirit Of Boom gelding made it back-to-back wins when he clobbered his rivals in Open company at Inverell. Ridden a treat by apprentice, Molly Fitzgerald, he sat right behind the leading three, then loomed up after straightening, took control and ran away with it, putting 2.5 lengths on them in the 1050m event. He handled the Heavy 10 conditions well that day so the wet track here shouldn’t be an issue today. Fitzgerald sticks with him for this assignment and down in grade today, a similar run here should see him in the finish at odds.
