Gold Coast galloper, RISING STAR, has finally found his mojo and at the weights today, should take some beating. Last start, he proved his love of racing here when he took out a BM65 Hcp over the 1400m trip. That was win number two on the track from just three visits to date. Kyle Wilson-Taylor steered the now seven-year-old to his maiden victory three years ago and is reunited with him for this assignment. The scene looks set as his gets the gun-run from gate one here and coming in on the limit (with 54kgs), he can go back-to-back today.

Race 8:  No.8  HE’S THE NEWS  ($6.25 with Bet Right)

The Kelly Schweida-trained HE’S THE NEWS is in top-shelf form of late and looks well placed here to make an impact on this contest. Last start, the Press Statement gelding made it four-straight podium finishes when he beat all but one home in a BM65, here over 1400m. He takes on Class 4 company today but drops 3kgs in the process. Adin Thompson jumps aboard for his first ride on the six-year-old who has finished top-two at his only two starts here to date. He comes off a six-week freshen-up but did place in a recent trial at Deagon. Nicely drawn in gate four, he has the runs on the board and looks a genuine contender today.

Race 9:  No.6  MY ODDETTE  ($7 with bet365)

The Eagle Farm-based MY ODDETTE is unbeaten in two starts here and fourth-up today looks a great chance of bringing up her first win for this campaign. Last start, the Rock ‘n’ Pop mare took on a strong Class 4 field at Doomben where she just couldn’t match it with them, finishing near mid-field in the 1200m contest. Fitter for three runs back now, she drops sharply in grade here as she returns to the country scene with Ryan Wiggins returning for the ride after ten previous rides have resulted in three wins and a minor placing. She gets the gun-run from gate one and already two from two at the track and trip, she looks great value in this line-up.
