BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 2 MANHATTAN STRIP – ($9)
A drying track is key to the chances of MANHATTAN STRIP in the small field for the opener at Belmont Racecourse on Wednesday. Manhattan Strip knocked off his maiden over 1400m at Pinjarra earlier this prep before ceding many lengths to Sesswa in the run. Seesaw gained the run of the race over 1400 metres here to outlast a wall of horses including Manhattan Strip. Manhattan Strip then settled behind a smaller field to circle wide and bolt in over a mile at Northam. Given a slight let-up before failing on the heavy 9 at that same track last time out. We have a drying day on Tuesday with Belmont currently a Soft 6 and more sun to follow on Wednesday. There is not a lot of pace amongst this small group, though there should be some pressure for spots up forward. Clint Johnston-Porter can watch all this unfold before bringing Manhattan Strip with one run up the middle.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 8 No. 4 CAPTAIN SHARMANE – ($2.80)
Lucy Fiore gave CAPTAIN SHARMANE a beautiful trail early during the Provincial Series Final at Belmont. The mare jumped from an inside gate while racing second-up and out to the 1400 metres for the first time. She seemed to have plenty to give as Fiore had to wait for her run behind Starring Knight before gaining clear running by the 150m. Captain Sharmane possibly peaked on that run; however, showed enough to suggest that she’s in for a good prep. She is a genuine midweek galloper who ran above herself in sharp time to the day. Look For Captain Sharmane as trainer Takahide Ikenushi brings her back to the provincials to where she can be winning again soon.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4 No. 9 SHEZGOTTHALOT – ($19)
We were keen to take a look at SHEZGOTTHALOT who was an acceptor for that recently postponed Belmont meeting. Jade McNaught asked Shezgottelot to come back off them from the wider gate as the speed dropped out when racing on debut at York. Her horse was always trucking a long way from home as McNaught circumnavigated the field rounding for home. Shezgotthelot rattled off the fastest last 600m sectional of the day to score while coming away. The third placed runner was Tin Chooks who recorded the second-fastest last 600m. That horse has since come out to win his maiden while Shezgotthelot became caught up along the inferior inside section at her next start.
