BEST BET 🏆

Race 1 No. 2 ELDORADO RIVER ($5.60)

Madi Derrick can fill a stalking role aboard ELDORADO RIVER who has been knocking on the door for a win. We thought we were home for all money at the double figures when Eldorado River raced past them third-up over 1300 metres. It took Mama Tembu who was 25 race starts between wins to come out of the pack and knock us off. That horse has come out to win again since, as has the third-placed Kelora. Taj Dyson then found himself back off a good tempo before bringing Eldorado River with his run on turning. The pair were no match for Fine Touch who put them away with Eldorado River accounting for the rest. Since kept ticking over for this with a handy run behind Pompey over the mile in Saturday grade.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7 No. 1 MERCURIUS ($14)

Natasha Faithful found herself an unwilling leader aboard MERCURIUS as the pair were trapped deep without cover early. Faithful slipped Mercurius a bit more leather after they straightened out of the first bend to go to a clear lead. This was the first time Mercurius had been out to a trip and looked comfortable rolling along at an even tempo. Faithful clicked him up again as they rounded for home with her mount racing clear to score a comfortable win. The maiden victory provided trainer Steven Burton with almost immediate success at his third start for the new stable. Holly Watson has drawn to give Mercurius every chance in the race and may get to follow the likes of Lord Randolph who over raced in the blinkers last time.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5 No. 7 CRUISE TO VICTORY ($17)

The wide barrier draw has not helped the chances of CRUISE TO VICTORY as a clever field assemble for the fifth race at Belmont Racecourse on Wednesday. Should still roll forward in a race with reasonable pace and whether he leads or not depends on who wants to kick up to make him earn it. Settled in an on-pace position one-off behind the leader when proving too tough in a 1300 metre race at Pinjarra. Rolled forward to lead last start over this track and trip before succumbing to the late dive of Ruling Dame. This race boasts a slice of the future with a few prospects finding out where they fit in. Cruise To Victory may just prove too tough for the others at this stage while opening at a big early quote.
