BEST BET 🏆
Race 4 No. 1 GINGER BAKER – ($4.80)
The class appears to come from the top of the weights in GINGER BAKER at Belmont Racecourse on Saturday. Not sure we need to be over-thinking this one so much as many of these have raced against each other recently. Ginger Baker put a first-up defeat at the hands of Saturday’s rival Knot Secret behind him last start. The five-year-old is not known for his first-up prowess and immediately followed with a close-up effort behind Bustler over 1400m. Brad Parnham then found the three wide trailing line to tow Knot Secret and Session’s Peak into the run. Knot Secret had his chance to overrun Ginger Baker into the straight only to find Parnham’s mount too strong. The rivals find their weights are raised from that race with Ginger Baker a proven winner while carrying the 60 kilos.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 8 No. 10 THE VELVET QUEEN – ($3)
Another chapter in Western Australian Racing’s greatest moments will be written on Saturday as top filly THE VELVET QUEEN seeks revenge over Bustler in the Hyperion Stakes. Throw in WA stalwart Dom To Shoot plus the underrated mare Playing Marika and we are in for a treat! The early market has settled firmly in the corner of the late season three-year-olds, and we’re right there with them. We’ve never been of the thought that Bustler genuinely wants a mile, though he’s classy enough to grind out the later stages. The Velvet Queen raced a little fresh during the Belmont Sprint when the pair last met as the gelding got the better of her late. She comes into this second-up from a deliberately hatched plan by the McAuliffe yard and is the horse with improvement to come.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5 No. 6 VALENCY – ($9.50)
The winners are starting to come for Jade McNaught who aims to make it three-straight on the in form mare VALENCY. McNaught found plenty of cover aboard Valency during the early to middle stages before bursting through a needle-eye gap to score on resumption. Settled back at her next start before picking rails runs with the mare as she ran down #WABlackbookers horse Ultimate Command. Valency has shown professionalism together with a superior turn of foot since resuming and can go on with it here.
