Bendigo Tips 18/6/2023

BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)

Race 1 No. 1 AFRICAN PIONEER- ($2.20)

Nice debut by AFRICAN PIONEER at Geelong on June 4 and the early money trail suggest he can go one spot better in this assignment. The Matt Cumani-trained galloper was posted well back over the 1200m at Geelong before making a long and sustained run to finish a length off the winner, going two lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is superior than what any of these have produced in their careers. Step up to the 1600m and scope from others are the unknowns but the son of Lonhro shapes as a future winner and keen to jump on.

NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)

Race 3 No 5 GALEKA- ($3.65)

GALEKA can go one spot better than a last start effort that saw him finish runner-up behind Miss Icelandic over the 1200m at Cranbourne on May 19. On that occasion, the Greg Eurell filly settled handy and made good ground but couldn’t quite go with Miss Icelandic. She comes into this third up and gives the impression that the 1400m should suit, while the daughter of Impending draws perfectly in barrier 4.

BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 8 No. 6 HESKET- ($7)

HESKET is worth thought in the final race of the day at Bendigo. The Matthew Ellerton-trained galloper resumed at Mornington on May 31 over the 1200m and settled last of the 12 runners on what was a very slow tempo before working home well for 6th, beaten just over three lengths. The son of Fastnet Rock will strip fitter for this and drops slightly in grade. Wide barrier is a slight negative but he will look to land in the running line and with enough tempo in the race he can challenge them late in the piece.
