Bets of the Day — Tuesday 20 October

Overview

Better By Far is Tuesday’s best bet. It has run three times for three seconds, it drops into a Kyneton maiden over 1118m, and Waterhouse and Bott have won with two of their three runners at the track.

That is one of three selections, all from Kyneton, and all three have a live price. Grafton has been abandoned. Mt Isa supplied some of the strongest form on the day, but no bookmaker had priced that card yet.

The best bet

Better By Far, Kyneton Race 2, 2:30PM, 1.30 with Bet Right.

Three starts, three seconds. Its one run in the last 90 days earned $18,600, which says the races it has been running placings in were stronger than this maiden. The stable has won with two of its three Kyneton runners, and Jett Stanley, who keeps the ride, has placed on six of his ten rides here.

The price is short, so this is a selection for multis and for anyone who wants the most likely winner on the day rather than a big return. The risk is barrier 10 in a sprint, though three scratchings have trimmed the field. Unwavering, a first-starter from a stable that has placed three of its four Kyneton runners, is the danger.

The value bet

Count Chevalier, Kyneton Race 3, 3:00PM, 9.50 with Palmerbet.

It ran third last time, it has a placing from its two recent runs, and the Hayes stable places with half of its Kyneton runners. In a maiden where the scratchings have already taken out two of the more consistent runners, that is enough to make it the each-way angle in the race.

Bourne Legacy is the favourite and our pick: it ran second last time after a fifth and a seventh, for A & S Freedman with M J Dee aboard. Merry Chase, an unraced C W McDonald runner, is the other danger. At the prices, Count Chevalier is the each-way bet, as it was in the Kyneton preview.

The quaddie angle

Please Me Do, Kyneton Race 4, 3:30PM, 4.20 with Neds.

Race 4 opens the Kyneton quaddie, and Please Me Do is the horse to build it on. It won last time, it has a win and a placing from two Kyneton starts, and its two runs in the last 90 days were worth $14,740. Barrier 1 over 1218m gives it the shortest way around.

Bliss Bomb is the favourite with one placing from three recent runs, and Kamezali ran second last time with John Allen aboard. Use Please Me Do as a single in the first leg and spread later, where Brutify and The Quiet Immortal are our picks in Races 6 and 7.

How these were picked

All three selections come from our full Kyneton preview. Grafton has since been abandoned, and Kyneton is the only meeting of the day with markets open. Mt Isa’s Zephirine and Revolt have the strongest course records on the day, with four wins from six and four from four at the track, but neither had a price, so they stay in the Mt Isa preview. Kyneton’s NAP, The Quiet Immortal, runs in a race without a market yet, which is why the selections lean on the earlier races.
