BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.1 CIRCULARITY ($1.90 with bet365)
The Lindsay Hatch-trained CIRCULARITY is in good touch of late and facing an easier task here, looks the best of the day. Two starts back, he lined-up in the Lightning Hcp at Townsville and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fourth in the 13-strong field, beaten 1.5 lengths. Then last start, he faced Open company again in a 1300m Hcp at Townsville and again finished just behind the money in fifth place, beaten just over a length that day. Prior to that, he won consecutive starts in Class 6 company at Townsville and Mackay. He makes his Bowen debut today and has Justin Stanley in the saddle who steered the six-year-old to victory in his only previous ride on the galloper (four starts back). He has weight to carry today (61.5kgs) but gets the gun-run from gate one where Stanley may opt to take a sit with so much early speed in the race. He looks better than these and should take beating today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.2 MEDAL ($3.20 with bet365)
Townsville visitor MEDAL is on a short five-day back-up here but has the form on the board to suggest he will be a major player in this contest. Last start, the Savabeel gelding made the four-hour trek up the Bruce Hwy to Cairns where he did well to finish second in a BM60 Hcp over 1900m at the Cannon Park track. Carrying 60kgs, he drew the car park in gate 11 (of 12), forcing jockey Adrian Layt’s hand to push forward from the outset, eventually settling second, outside the leader. The early work took it’s toll, but to his credit, he kept fighting to the finish and was gallant in defeat that day. He is in career-best form this time in with his past seven starts resulting in two wins and four minor placings. Layt sticks with him today and he does little to no early work from gate three. Behind a genuine pace here, he looks a genuine contender for the major prize.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.5 SAVVY SOVEREIGN ($6 with BoomBet)
The Townsville-based SAVVY SOVEREIGN has his second start for new trainer Matthew McGuire today and making his Bowen debut looks in the mix in this company. Last start, the Savabeel gelding made his Nth Qld debut on the Cannon Park track in Cairns where he drew the carpark in gate 12 (of 12) and with 61kgs to carry, was never in the contest. Trapped four-wide without cover, Scotty Sheargold did his best to keep the five-year-old ‘in the hunt’ but the job proved too big in the end, finishing back in the field, beaten five lengths that day. Drawn much better here in gate four, the former Maher & Eustace galloper maps to settle much closer to the speed and should have plenty of cover in the race. He is up in grade today but already a winner when second-up, he can figure here at odds.
