Race 6:  No.2  FODOR

Local trainer, Steve Massingham saddles up track specialist, FODOR here who is third-up and ticks all the important boxes that suggest he will take beating here. Last start, the Heroic Valour gelding improved off his first-up effort when he clobbered a Restricted 55 field, here over the 950m sprint. With Ryan Wiggins aboard, he settled outside the leader and they quickly put three lengths on the rest of them. In the run home, Wiggins said ‘go’ and the four-year-old left them all standing and went on to win by almost four lengths, eased over the final stages. Already a winner when second-up he now has three victories on his home track with two of those in wet conditions so the Soft 6 looks ideal for him today. Wiggins remains in the saddle and from gate two, maps to settle right on the speed. He has won over this trip before and with two runs under his belt, he looks the best of the day.

Race 7:  No.6  PUSS BOOTS

The Roy Chillemi-trained PUSS BOOTS has found the podium four times from her six starts this preparation and back on her home track today, looks a serious contender for victory in this contest. Last start, the Irish-sired filly came off a big win, here on a Heavy 8 when she travelled to Townsville and meeting similar company that day, had no luck in the run home but still managed to grab third prize in the Three-Year-Old Hcp over 1200m. Back on home soil today, she welcomes a new pilot with Adrian Layt taking the reins and from a wide draw (gate 9) she maps to settle back in the field. With a little luck in running, if she gets clear on the corner, she should prove hard to hold out here.

Race 8:  No.3  GO GETABOY 

The ever-feared team of Roy Chillemi and ‘Lethal’ Lacey Morrison combine again for this event with GO GETABOY on the short back-up and looks a super chance of scoring his first win for this campaign. Last start, the Stratum Star gelding sat back in the field and found it hard going in the run home to reel them in, finishing fourth in the Open Hcp. Back on home soil today, he boasts track specialist status with four wins and as many minor placings on the Cannon Park track and Lacey Morrison has a record just as glowing with three previous rides ending in two wins and a minor placing. Chillemi assures me the quick back-up is not a problem as he has won previously under similar conditions and a check of his history confirms this. Eleven starts on soft tracks have resulted in four wins and four minor money finishes so the forecast Soft 6 today looks ideal for him. Yet to miss a podium finish at the track and distance in five attempts to date, he looks the testing material here today.
