Nick Olive saddles-up WAGUNDA here who has been strong and consistent this preparation and looks set to continue the good work here today. Last start, the Wandjina gelding found the 1400m at the Sapphire Coast just a little too challenging where he finished just behind the placegetters, weakening in the final stages of the race. He drops back in distance today and Billy Owen sticks with him for the contest. Drawn nicely in gate five, he maps to settle with the first half-dozen and a clear run to the line should see him hard to hold out here.

The locally-trained REGION TIME has been fairly consistent this time in and looks right at home in this contest. Last start, the Territories filly came off a good win at Wagga when she wasn’t disgraced in finishing fourth in a BM66 Hcp over 2000m on the same track. The track was a Heavy 10 that day and she did well to finish as close as she did, beaten less than half a length on the line. She’s back on her home track today but is seeing the synthetic surface for the first time. Missing a top-four finish only twice in nine starts this preparation, she can keep up the good work here and should prove hard to beat today.

One for the ‘each-way all day’ crowd here is local galloper ALMOST PERSUADED who is second-up here and capable of finding a place on the podium today. Last start, the Casino Prince mare resumed off a 19-week break when she finished unplaced in a Bm74 Hcp over 1400m at Wellington. Clearly in need of the run, she still wasn’t disgraced, beaten just 1.5 lengths on the line. Fitter for that hit-out, she maps to settle near the speed here from gate six and dropping back in distance today, she may just prove hard to run down. With a 3kg claim here, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
