Casterton Tips 8/11/2022
BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 7 RECAP- ($2.70)
RECAP can chalk up that elusive win in the opener at Casterton. The four-year-old has placed in seven of 10 career starts and has settled back on Heavy tracks at her past two, running on to fill the minors. Last time out she was no match for Holymanz at Horsham over the 1400m. Stable have opted to have a crack at a longer trip here and she has been solid late in recent runs. Blaike McDougall rides and the pair save ground from barrier 1.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 5 DONATION- ($9.50)
DONATION can improve off a first up effort that saw him finish 4th at Casterton over the 1200m on October 18. The five-year-old settled back in a slowly run race that day before making up some grounding the straight. Second up last time he improved to go 2.6 lengths slower than standard when 3rd at Warrnambool over the 1400m. He has been a big firmer in the early betting and should enjoy the run of the race from barrier 2.
Best Value 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 8 No. 11 WICKLOW LASS- ($8)
Sticking with WICKLOW LASS in Race 8. We were keen on the Tom Dabernig galloper at her most recent start when runner-up at Casterton but she couldn’t quite reel in Side Bet, finishing two lengths off that horse but putting a big gap on the rest. Form prior to that in harder company was promising. She went 1.7 lengths faster than standard last time, which are the best last start benchmark figures of any runner, while a drying track should suit.
