Casterton Tips 18/10/2022
BEST BET 🏆
Race 6 No. 15 ZEMINNIKA- ($4.80)
Hoping the third emergency, ZEMINNIKA, gains a start here. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained galloper has placed in three of her past four and came down from NSW to Geelong on September 15, looming as the winner over the 1325m before just going down late behind Phoenix Global. This looks easier and the daughter of Zoustar went 0.3 lengths slower than standard benchmark last time, which are the best last start figures of any runner and the second best that any horse in this race has produced. Barrier 4 looks perfect and the drop back to the 1200m should suit.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 1 RAGING MONKEY- ($5)
RAGING MONKEY shapes as a solid chance in Race 5. The lightly raced seven-year-old was a winner over the 1000m at Coleraine three starts ago before battling at Donald. He stepped out off a seven-week break at Mildura on October 4 and settled handy before running 3rd behind Zoutons. That form looks good for this and the prospect of a drying track is a bonus. Laura Lafferty retains the ride.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 8 No. 10 GRETA MOON- ($7)
Best Value comes up in Race 8 and it is GRETA MOON that can make it back to back wins. The consistent mare was placed in three on the trot before leading on the Soft over the 1600m at Coleraine on September 23 and holding on from Bavarian Lady, while those two gapped the rest. The runner-up and the 3rd placegetter have since come out and won and she went 1.6 lengths slower than standard, which are the best last start figures of any runner. Linda Meech rides and partnered the daughter of Puissance De Lune last time. Look for her to roll forward from the barrier.
