Clare Tips 3/12/2023
BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 7 TALL LETTER – ($3.65)
We’re happy to pick on the first at Clare being a race of few chances to side with TALL LETTER as bet selection. Training duo John Hickmott & Carrina Riggs get the hard-grinding on-pacer out to a trip for the first time. Tall Letter stuck on gamely under Sheriden Tomlinson over the mile at Balaklava after bowling along at a genuine tempo. The pair were only claimed late by the hot favourite in Hit The Slopes while Money Or The Box snuck through on the inside to pinch second. Tall Letter has previously run well at Strathalbyn, which is not too dissimilar to Clare Racecourse.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2 No. 3 ALAINGE – ($4)
The Stuart Padman trained debutante ALAINGE will backed to win her first start at Clare Racecourse on Sunday. The filly showed promise in a jumpout last prep where she did plenty right behind Sioux Warrior. Showed pace in another recent jumpout back home in Murray Bridge without being asked of anything to the line Alaigne has also been to the barrier trials where she settled off the speed under apprentice Maggie Collett. The pair ranged up to them into the straight to get to the line in front without attempting to break any records. Alaigne is an impressive filly with a future who looks well placed by the Padman stable on Sunday.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6 No. 1 EXCELMAN – ($21.50)
Port Augusta trained galloper EXCELMAN has opened at a price which belies his ability. New to the McKerlie and Hornhardt stable this prep, Excelman has not been beaten far against a strong level of opposition. Excelman’s runs include finishing less than three lengths off Ironclad in the Listed Balaklava Cup. He was also not beaten far in the Listed John Letts over this trip at his most recent run four weeks ago. We have been waiting for the team to bring their horse back to a suitable grade. This is a pretty handy field for a race in the state’s mid-north, yet Excelman gets in well with the claim from Maggie Collett and will be making his presence felt late.
