To the big one of the day and the Brett Robb-trained GALLANT STAR is skinny with the bagman but does looks the best of the day. Last start, the Zoustar gelding missed his first top-three finish after nine race starts when he collected fourth prize in a strong BM72 over 1250m at Canterbury. The allocated 60.5kgs took its toll that day after the four-year-old had secured three-straight podium finishes against city-class gallopers at Rosehill and Randwick. Sam Clipperton has been the pilot for the galloper’s past four starts and has the reins for this assignment. Returning to the country scene today, he draws ideally in gate five and maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. With a trouble-free run here, surely just bad luck is his only threat to defeat today.

Race 8:  No.6  DON’T CALL ME HONEY

Scone trainer, Cameron Crockett saddles-up DON’T CALL ME HONEY here who is second-up today and looks primed for back-to-back wins in this contest. Last start, the Sooboog gelding resumed off his debut runner-up finish in a Tamworth Maiden when he went one better on his home track and took out a 1000m Maiden. Leading from barrier to box, he never looked like losing that race with Jeff Penza in total control as the three-year-old crossed the line 1.5 lengths clear in the end. Brisbane’s tearaway leading jockey, James Orman makes a rare visit to Coonamble today and is the pilot for this assignment. From gate five, the galloper maps to lead them again and will take a ton of beating here.

Race 4:  No.6  WEAVE THAT WEB 

The Garry Lunn-trained WEAVE THAT WEB is on a seven-day back-up today and looks every chance of making it eight-straight podium finishes in this contest. Last start, the Pierro gelding kept the top-three finishes going when he collected third prize in a BM66 over 2110m at Orange. Braith Nock had his fifth-straight ride on him that day as he steered him to the line, beaten less than a length in the end. He has earned the title of ‘captain consistency’ this preparation, securing a top-three finish in all eight starts this time in. He drops back to the mile trip but is meeting similar company here and looks set to go on with it today. We were with him last start (our Next Best tip) and are sticking with him today.
