Our form expert provides Coonamble tips for today’s horse racing at Coonamble Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.6  MORGENSTERN  ($3.20 with bet365)

The Dubbo-based galloper MORGENSTERN has his first look at the Coonamble track today and second-up, looks right in the mix for victory here. Last start, the More Than Ready gelding resumed off an 18-week break and showing no signs of fatigue, took out a Class 3 Hcp over 1200m at Tamworth. With Clay Gallagher aboard, he ran his last 600m, half a length slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort in this field. Gallagher sticks with him today and the stable have put the tongue tie back on for this contest. Already a two-time winner over the 1600m trip, he looks well-placed here to make his track debut a winning one.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 8:  No.6  SILVER SCISSORS  ($3 with Palmerbet)

Another Dubbo visitor is SILVER SCISSORS who also makes her track debut today and four starts into her current preparation, looks set and ready to stake her claim for victory here. Last start, the Scissor Kick mare brought up another podium finish when she beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp over 1400m on her home track. Clay Gallagher was aboard that day and from gate 12 (of 14) did a magnificent job to steer the mare into a top-two finish from out there. He is faced with the same challenge again today (drawn gate 12 again) but should find it easier here with very little early pace in the race. She has been knocking on the door for her second career win and this looks like a golden opportunity for her to make it happen.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 1:  No.3  MR SEVERINO  ($3.80 with Unibet)

Tamworth galloper MR SEVERINO has improved with every start this time in and after back-to-back runner-up finishes, he should be ready to win today. Last start, the Magnus gelding took home the bridesmaid’s prize again when beating all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp over the mile at Dubbo. He took over inside the last 200m but was again grabbed by a swooper who finished best to grab the win. Down in Class today, Ben Looker has the ride and from gate four, maps to settle near the speed again. Rock-hard fit after four starts back, he should prove hard to hold out today.
