Race 3: No.3 SHEER LUNACY ($5.25 with Picklebet)

Victorian galloper SHEER LUNACY crosses the border today fresh off a 19-week spell and is capable of taking out this contest. Last start, the lightly-raced four-year-old had just his third race start and coming off a big Maiden win, was disappointing when finishing down the track in a BM58 Hcp over 2040m at Benalla. Clearly the distance proved too much for him that day and he spelled right after that. He has trialled recently and on a Heavy 10 at Tatura, he finished half a length in front of them in the 1450m gallop. The distance looks ideal for him here (winning his maiden over the mile trip) and after riding him to that victory, Hannah Edgley sticks with him today. He looks a real chance in this line-up.

Race 6: No.11 ARACHIDI ($5.50 with bet365)

The Craig Weeding-trained ARACHIDI also crosses the border today as she takes on the older gallopers but third-up and down in grade here, she can give this a real shake. Last start, the Super One filly founds the heavy going too much as she finished mid-field in a BM64 Plate over 1400m at Bendigo. From a wide draw, she sat three-deep without cover most of the trip and had nothing left in the run home in those conditions. She gets the gun-run from gate one today and should find this grade of gallopers a little easier to deal with as she makes her track debut here. Fitter for two runs back and conditions not as bad, she looks a real value runner in this contest.

Race 4: No.2 CHICANE ($4 with Bet Right)

The Wagga-based galloper CHICANE has been thereabouts in most of his starts this preparation and looks set for a change of luck today. Last start, the Star Turn gelding put in a big one where he beat all but one home in a 1200m Maiden at Narrandera. He took over inside the final 200m but was grabbed by a swooper in the closing stages. Drawn in gate six here, he maps to settle in the first half of the field and with a clear run to the line, he looks in the mix to break through for his first win today.
