BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.4 EXCELLENT FIGHTER ($2.30 with bet365)
The Ricky Yiu-trained EXCELLENT FIGHTER is in outstanding form since debuting (seven starts back) and after consecutive runner-up finishes, looks set to go one better tonight. Last start, the Hinchinbrook gelding ploughed through the unfavourable heavy going and still managed to beat all but one home in a Class 3, here over 1200m with Vince Ho in the saddle. From gate 11 (of 13), he was trapped four-wide without cover to the turn, then fanned even wider to find clean air. Never a winning hope, he still stormed home to grab the silver medal with full honours going to Ho for a solid ride (under the circumstances). Gate six gives him relief tonight as he maps to settle better than mid-field and much closer to the fence tonight. Rock-hard fit now and with a trouble-free run here, he will give this contest a real shake.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5: No.3 SIMPLE HEDGE ($2.40 with Bet Right)
John Size saddles-up SIMPLE HEDGE here who has found the podium from three of his four starts to date and looks perfectly placed here to bring up his second career win tonight. Last start, the Sebring gelding found one a little too strong on the day when he beat all but one home in a Class 4 Hcp, here at his first crack over the 1400m trip with Zac Purton on board. Another poor start cost him dearly, seeing him last out of the gates and spotting the front-runners 15 lengths on settling. Purton weaved his magic and found gaps in the run home and while never a winning chance (as the winner left them all behind), he did manage to beat 14 (of the other 15) home across the line. Purton has Joao Moreira’s record (of 170 winners in a season) in clear sight now (already riding 163 himself) and with seven meetings to go (counting tonight), he can reduce that margin by taking out this contest.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4: No.2 ALL IS GOOD ($4 with bet365)
The Francis Lui-trained ALL IS GOOD has found his mojo and looks every chance of bringing up the hat-trick tonight. Last start, the Press Statement gelding made it back-to-back wins when he took out a Class 4 Hcp, here over 1400m. That was his second win at the track and distance with Vince Ho in saddle who sticks with him again for this assignment. Nicely drawn in gate six tonight, the hat-trick is a distinct possibility.
