Our form expert provides Doomben tips for Saturday’s horse racing at Doomben Racecourse and gives his best bets.
BEST BET 🏆
Race 10: No.3 MANHOOD ($5.50 with Neds)
Annabel Neasham saddles-up MANHOOD here who is third-up for this and has strong enough claims to see him in the finish. Last start, the Headwater gelding showed signs of missing some race fitness when he battled home to finish mid-field (beaten three lengths) in a Class 6 over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast. He is already a winner when third-up and boasts a victory and two minor placings from four starts at the track. He gets 2kgs relief here after Bailey Wheeler’s claim and from three, he should have every opportunity to challenge for the major prize here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.12 TOJAKI ($4 with Ladbrokes)
She is a little skinny with the bagmen here but the Stuart Kendrick-trained TOJAKI is progressing nicely through the ranks and looks a solid winning chance in this contest. Last start, the Zoustar mare made it back-to-back wins when she took out a BM78 Hcp, here over 1350m. That made it two wins and a close-up second from three starts at the track which is rapidly becoming a favourite for her to race on. Ideally drawn here in gate four, she maps to settle on the speed and with 3kgs less to carry, she looks the one they have to catch.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8: No.6 THE BIG GOODBYE ($8 with Bet Right)
Robert Heathcote saddles-up Rothfire and THE BIG GOODBYE with both gallopers boasting strong claims here, however the latter has the benefit of one run back and is unbeaten on heavy tracks so we are running with him to take this out. Last start, the six-year-old resumed off an 18-week spell and wasn’t disgraced as he made up ground from back in the field to finish fifth (of 13) in Open company over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast. He finished off his last preparation by winning the Listed Ramornie Hcp (1200m) at Grafton which is good form for this contest. Already a winner when second-up and a three-time winner at the track and distance, an each-way here looks the go.
