BEST BET 🏆
Race 3: No.6 SHAPIN POWER ($2.70 with Ladbrokes)
The Chris Munce-trained SHAPIN POWER sees the Doomben track for the first time today and third-up here, looks a genuine winning chance in this line up. Last start, the Power filly still looked one run short when she just behind the placegetters in a BM65 Hcp over 1350m at Ipswich. From gate nine, she used up plenty of early fuel to find the front and from there, she was shadowed by the race favourite (Thorpe) who went on to win comfortably in the end, leaving the filly a fading fourth in the race. This looks a little easier for her as Damien Thornton takes the reins today. She draws much better in gate two and already a winner when third-up, she should take beating here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.6 DEEP ROUGE ($3.15 with BoomBet)
Barry Lockwood saddles-up DEEP ROUGE here who is four starts into this campaign and looks ready to win. Last start, the Deep Field mare found the podium for the second time this preparation when she finished third in a Class 6 Plate over 1200m at Ipswich. With Mark Du Plessis in the saddle for the third-straight time, she ran home well enough but had to settle for the minor money, beaten less than a length on the line. Placed at the track and a two-time winner over the trip, she should be at her peak for this and down in grade today, looks a big chance at snagging the major prize here.

Race 8: No.4 BIG SHORT ($5 with Neds)
More than a quarter of the field come up as early scratchings here which makes the job a little easier for the Barry Lockwood-trained BIG SHORT to bring up his third win for this campaign. Last start, the Capitalist gelding came from mid-field to claim victory in a Class 3 Plate over 1200m at Beaudesert. He finished second here in a Class 1 Hcp last preparation so he is familiar with the Doomben circuit. Drawn nicely in gate two today, he maps to be box-seating on settling and has Justin Huxtable in the saddle for the first time. Winning two of his three starts this time in, he should be at his peak for this contest and should prove hard to hold out today.
