BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.3 MARYLAND BRIDGE ($2.95 with BoomBet)
Local galloper MARYLAND BRIDGE has impressed with her two career starts to date and looks the testing material in this contest. On debut, the Pariah filly showed plenty of fight as she finished second in a two-horse dog fight, beaten half a length, here in a 1000m Maiden. Then last start, she went one better as a $1.50 favourite where she finished best to break through in a Maiden Plate over the longer 1100m trip, also on this track. Both of those efforts were on rain affected tracks so today’s forecast Soft 7 should be ideal for her in this event. Aaron Bullock sticks with her as she steps up in distance again, but even fitter now for those first two efforts, she still looks the one to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.11 SUSSU ($3.45 with BoomBet)
Scone-based galloper SUSSU is third-up today and returning to country racing, looks a serious contender in this contest. After six months off the scene, the Panzer Division mare took on City class company in consecutive Class 3 Hwy Hcps at Rosehill where she finished not far away in both contests, beaten just over two lengths each time. Prior to the long break, she ended her last preparation by beating home a Class 2 Hwy Hcp field at Rosehill over 1100m. She comes in on the limit here with just 55.5kgs to carry and Grant Buckley has his second ride on the mare. Drawn gate five, she maps to settle in the first half dozen and looks in the mix as she sees the Dubbo track for the first time. The four-year-old is a dual acceptor today (listed to run in race eight as well), but if connections choose to run her in this event, at the weights, she should prove hard to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.3 HAMPTON COVE ($3.70 with Ladbrokes)
The Brett Thompson-trained HAMPTON COVE is three starts into this preparation and now looks ready to win. Last start, the Onemorenomore gelding made it back-to-back podium finishes when he took home third prize in a BM50 Hcp over 1000m on a Heavy 10 at Wellington. The 63kgs on a wet track took care of his winning chances that day but he still managed to finish in the money just the same. Today, he drops 5.5kgs for this contest and 11 of his 12 top-three finishes have come on wet tracks so conditions today look ideal for him. His last win was almost a year ago and it came on this track and distance. Fighting fit after three runs back, he can give this contest a real shake today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 2: No.1 EAST HARLEM ($4.40 with Palmerbet)
Topweight EAST HARLEM is flying high this time in with four-straight podium finishes and looks the one to beat again in this contest. Last start, the Spirit Of Boom gelding ended a hat-trick of minor placings when he brought up career win number two in a Class 2 Hcp, here over 1400m. Box-seating to the turn, Nick Heywood made his move inside the final 200m and arrived in time to take home the major prize. The three-year-old comes up with gate one (again) and should be box-seating again on settling. He steps-up to the mile today but after four starts back, he should be rock-hard fit and at his peak for this assignment. Back-to-back wins can be achieved today.
