BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.1 PROTOSTAR ($4.80 with Ladbrokes)
The locally-trained PROTOSTAR is second-up today after 10 months off the scene and looks well placed here to give this contest a real shake. Last start, the Star Turn gelding was no match for the winner on his rusty legs but did manage to beat the rest home and collect second prize in a Class 1 Hcp over 1000m at Warren. Jake Barrett has the ride here and his 1.5kgs claim can only help the galloper’s chances. Nicely drawn in gate six, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. Already a winner when second-up, the cobwebs should be gone now and he looks a genuine winning chance today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.2 WASSERMAN ($5.50 with bet365)
Bathurst galloper WASSERMAN is no stranger to the Dubbo track and three starts into this preparation looks ready to win. Last start, the Lonhro gelding made it back-to-back runner-up cheques when he beat all but one home in a Class 2 Hcp over 1400m on a Heavy 9 at Wellington. Lumping 60kgs that day, he finished well to grab the silver medal in an 11-strong field. Ron Simpson has his first ride on the four-year-old today and after his claim, the gelding will carry 2.5kgs less than last start as he clashes with similar company here. Fitter for those three runs back, he should be nearing his peak and looks set to give this contest a real shake.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.4 MAGNUS RED ($6.10 with BoomBet)
Former Victorian galloper, MAGNUS RED is three starts into this preparation and looks poised for back-to-back victories here. Last start, the Magnus gelding had his first start for local trainer Clint Lundholm and remained unbeaten when third-up as he finished best to take out a BM58 Hcp over 1200m on the synthetic track at Pakenham. He drew the outside gate (11) that day and threaded his way through traffic to arrive in time and pick up the major prize. He steps up in grade here but is dropping 4.5kgs after the claim. New rider Ron Simpson boasts a 20% strike rate with the Lundholm stable and having his first start on his new home track, he looks a real threat to this field at odds today.
