Race 3:  No.1  HYPE  ($2.70 with Unibet)

The Aiden Nunn-trained HYPE has his third start for this stable today and dropping sharply in grade, looks set to return to winning form here. Last start, the French-sired gelding took on a BM90 field over the Doomben mile and found the assignment beyond him that day, finishing unplaced, 2.5 lengths behind the winner. He drew the outside gate (10) and was caught wide most of the way. He drops back in grade here and draws much better in gate three for this contest. The stable have applied several gear changes here, including blinkers for the first time. Andrew Mallyon is two from two with the five-year-old and has the reins today. Already a two-time winner over the 1400m and a first-up winner as well, he looks a genuine contender here.

Race 2:  No.6  OCEAN ZAR  ($3.60 with Ladbrokes)

The O’Dea & Hoysted-trained OCEAN ZAR has had a solid start to her racing career and here she looks well placed to continue on with more success today. Last start, the Zoustar mare came off her maiden win (on this track) when she took on a BM65 at the Sunshine Coast. With Ben Thompson sticking with her, she beat all but one home in the 1400m contest, beaten less than a length on the line. She has trialled since, finishing second in Class 3 company over 1000m at Doomben. Finishing top-two in three of her four starts to date, the four-year-old looks a promising type and should go close here.

Race 5:  No.9  KAYLEEN  ($11 with Bet Right)

Stuart Kendrick saddles-up KAYLEEN here who is third-up today and has enough runs on the board to suggest she is a chance here at odds. Last start, the Capitalist mare took a liking to the synthetic track when she proved too good for them in a Class 1 Hcp over 1050m at the Gold Coast. Bailey Wheeler was on board that day and sticks with the mare for this assignment. She has the outside gate to contend with here and looks to settle worse than mid-field. However, a clear run to the line will give her every opportunity to lay claims for a victory here and is well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
