BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 1 TRAIN ROCK – ($2.90)
Will be interesting to see if TRAIN ROCK can handle getting out to the mile for the first time at Gatton Racecourse on Friday. He’s gone close at his past couple of starts, both of which were over 1300 metres at Toowoomba. It appears the early market is leaning against him wanting the extra distance as we believe he should be marked much closer to a flip of the coin. Followed the speed for Les Tilly before coming off the fence to account for Bringme just as the winner was ascending late. Tony & Maddysen Sears applied the crossover for Nozi Tomizawa who gave Tain Rock the run of the race early at his next start. Thought the horse settled okay and did well to regather himself after being chopped out for runs shortly after straightening. Bringme took advantage of his nemesis’ poor fortune to sweep down the outside and just out last Train Rock who was finishing back towards the inside.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6 No. 3 UNDER THE LIMIT – ($3.85)
We’re still waiting on a rider to be named for UNDER THE LIMIT who has drawn poorly at Gatton tomorrow. Ryan Tyrell & Tom Button have not accepted elsewhere with their last start winner which leads us into thinking he may be a good chance to line up in this field. Luke Tarrant was hard at work early on Under The Limit to cross from the outside gate in a smaller field. Under The Limit led them up easily enough in the end before coming away late to record a dominant win. That was over this track and trip while in benchmark 68 grade. Does rise 4 kgs which is unlikely to bother him as he drops to benchmark 62. Under The Limit did lump 62 kgs when winning his maiden last prep.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7 No. 8 HARRYANDTHETIGER – ($19.20)
We saw good improvement come from HARRYANDTHETIGER who was racing third-up here last week. The horse generally takes a few runs into his prep to find his best and his trainer Mark Callaghan has chosen to back him up again. Harryandthetiger stays to track and trip while rising slightly in grade after just missing out last time. Shannon Apthorpe gave him a treat behind the speed early before peeling off the fence into the straight. He just had to check his run as their path became blocked until approaching the furlong. The post loomed too soon for Apthorpe and his mount as Biggie managed to keep his nose in front after receiving plenty of favours into the run.
