Race 4 No. 4 CULLEN SKINK – ($5)

Trainers Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea continue to raise the bar with the progressive CULLEN SKINK. Their lightly-raced 4yo is a big lump who has won both starts this campaign as he moves through the grades. Looked like he was going to run an honest second first-up over 1200 metres at Strathalbyn. Cullen Skink really knuckled down to task inside the 100 metres to nail Jive Baby in an unlikely victory. Ben Price then had the horse rolling forward to settle outside the leader over 1536 metres at Morphettville. They moved along at an even tempo in that race on Boxing Day with Cullen Skink failing to respond to riding as the tempo lifted. Price eventually found the best out of Cullen Skink with the pair out sprinting the rest in a quick last 600m. Cullen Skink has been racing as though he’s looking for further and strikes a suitable race at Gawler on Saturday.

Race 2 No. 1 BLAZING REBEL – ($4.50)

Class and weights have pushed Mornington trainers David Brideoake & Matt Jenkins over the border with their horse BLAZING REBEL. They could be in and out of Gawler Racecourse on Saturday with a couple of winners from the first two races. This is a messy event with not a lot of speed engaged. Blazing Rebel has drawn out with Kelsey Hannan likely having to go back in order to find a spot closer to the rail. Wiremu Pinn did exactly that when the pace did go on with Blazing Rebel racing second-up over 1800 metres at Caulfield. The pair reeled in the leader with 200m to go before putting the race to bed. Got a long way back last time under 60.5kg before running on to no avail. These horses may pack while coming to the turn with Blazing Rebel close enough to be hitting the front at the business end.

Race 5 No. 1 SEEKING GLORY – ($12)

We took note of the run from SEEKING GLORY in the Country Series Final at Morphettville over 1600 metres two starts ago. She jumped cleanly under Alana Livesey before coming back into a position behind the speed. She then began to over-race as the brakes went on before Alana had difficulty in obtaining clear running from turning until approaching the furlong. The winner Chipson had sailed on by with momentum while Seeking Glory ran an honest race into third. Travis Doudle applied both the blinkers and pacifiers in an attempt to get his mare to settle during her next run. They jammed up again in running which caused her to race fiercely once more before pulling up lame following the event. Seeking Glory jumps from an inside gate at Gawler Racecourse on Saturday in a race which promises a genuine tempo.
