BEST BET 🏆

Race 4 No. 4 BIG SHAQ – ($6.50)

Training duo Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas send BIG SHAQ around second-up at Gawler Racecourse on Wednesday. Their charge can improve on his first-up performance at Balaklava where he tracked the speed before closing off late. Big Shaq is a winner over this track and trip when racing second-up last prep. Jason Holder followed most of the field with Big Shaq before getting out to the right part of the track into the straight. The pair raced past a handy maiden field for a convincing win on the heavy track. The horse continued to show good ability in handy races and should continue to improve into his prep.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7 No. 1 TUPOLEU – ($7)

Track and distance winner TUPOLEU will likely roll forward into a handy position under Jason Holder. He won his maiden when racing first-up on a heavy track here twelve months ago. Ben Price found the front on Tupoleu as the pair surged forward from their wide gate. The pair never gave the others a chance as Tupoleu came away into the straight for a good win. Followed by drawing wide again second-up over this track and trip in metro grade. Only the very handy Chicago Storm could run him down as those two horses put a gap onto the rest. Found little room in strong race when resuming over 1050 metres at Balaklava. This race looks far more favourable and Tupoleu should be right amongst the finish.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5 No. 8 HOSTESS SUSIE – ($11.20)

Murray Bridge trainer Roslyn Day has HOSTESS SUSIE racing as a mare in form. She’s had three starts for her new trainer, culminating with a second-up win over 1706 metres here. Hostess Susie was dominant in winning her maiden despite being slowly into stride. Callan Murray kept his mount comfortable in the strung-out field before producing her up the middle of the track. Hostess Susie took the leap outside of maiden class with another strong finishing performance behind Campobasso last start. She will strip fitter again and has gone close to winning on a Soft 6 track over 1300 metres previously.
