Gawler Tips 27/10/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 7 No. 2 SECRET WAR – ($4.60 )

The #SABlackbookers stable of G & N Searle & B Callanan have SECRET WAR engaged as their only runner on Gawler Cup Day. We do expect good market support for this horse who delivered on his potential last prep. Secret War showed a clean pair of heels to lead all the way in a Saturday BM68 when downing Danish Fortune here third-up. Followed up with another all-the-way win over open class galloper Picargo in a BM76 over the same trip. Has had the benefit of a run over 900 metres where he led against the pattern of the day. Secret War has the pace to negate what appears to be a high-pressure race with stable apprentice Nichola Yuen claiming her full three kegs.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5 No. 4 STOKEDOWN – ($5)

Trainer David Jolly gets STOKEDOWN out to a bit of distance at Gawler Racecourse on Friday. The horse ran a big race after being trapped wide throughout at his only start on this track when racing second-up last prep. Stokedown was only narrowly defeated by Thirsty Guest who is well in the market for Friday’s Cup, and also Pearl Addios who went on to win in town. Stokedown ran on from a long way back behind Fun Forever in a slowly run race when resuming at Murray Bridge. Jolly removed the blinkers in favour of winkers as Todd Pannell found little luck in running behind Losesomewinmore at Morphettville second-up. Stokedown showed enough early pace to put himself into the race early before getting shuffled back. Ground home well enough and appears to be suited by this trip now.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 9 No. 4 JILLADORA – ($15)

Quirky mare JILLADORA missed the kick when carrying apprentice Maggie Collett who was entitled to some ring-rust following a long lay-off from race riding. Jilladora did have blinkers on for the first time which may not have aided her at the start. Collett found some trouble in the straight in a race where Jilladora should have finished closer to the winner Our Shining Star. Jilladora continued to put her quirks on display, this time over racing badly off a slow tempo. Collett handled her mount well while commencing to pinch runs into the race while kidding to Jilladora to relax. She did not finish off as a result and may improve with a month between runs and the blinkers coming off as senior rider Sairyn Fawke gains the ride.
