Race 6 No. 3 SOUTHERN SHOOTER – ($3.40)

Progressive 3yo SOUTHERN SHOOTER caught the eye with his second-up run at Port Lincoln. Callan Murray had nowhere to go on his horse who was racing strongly on the bridle throughout. By the time he managed to angle clear nearing the 200m, the race was shot to bits. Southern Shooter let down strongly to finish on the heels of the place getters. Travis Doudle then sent his horse out over 1400m at Balaklava where he again travelled strongly under Dom Tourneur. He went to them not long after straightening before coming away for a strong win to record one of the faster times of the day. Thought he disappointed a little when we were on as our Best Bet for Morphettville last start. We’ll stick for another while Dom Tourneur has drawn to allow Southern Shooter plenty of galloping room on Wednesday.

Race 4 No. 2 CAMPOBASSO – ($7.10)

The Alexander brothers will have plenty going towards their favour with CAMPOBASSO at Gawler Racecourse on Wednesday. Their horse can improve sharply after leading into the straight over 2000 metres at Murray Bridge. Campobasso is a track and distance specialist who has won three out of four races over 2100 metres at Gawler. His chances increased dramatically during the week as the rain came with Campobasso posting the majority of his wins on heavy tracks. He may still need another run or two to show his best; however, Campobasso has won second-up previously, and he can do so again on Wednesday.

Race 2 No. 10 VOILA LA VALSE – ($16.20)

The record on paper of VOILA LA VALSE does not speak to the mare’s true ability, nor to the fact that she has rarely run a bad race. The mare was okay when beaten around seven lengths over 2000 metres second-up in a benchmark race at Mildura. Took plenty of fitness work from that run into her home track of Murray Bridge as local trainer David Huxtable kept her to trip in a class one. Voila La Valse was one of the few to make ground in that race as she got home late for third behind the two leaders who had cleared out from the rest of them. Voila La Valse will appreciate coming back to maiden grade at her fourth run this prep while senior rider Callan Murray takes the ride.
