Race 8 No. 3 WALTER SPUR- ($2.15)

Going with WALTER SPUR to make it back-to-back wins when he steps out in Race 8. First up performance at Mornington was dominant, clearing out to a five-length win over the 1000m ahead of Per Ivy. Both wins have come when resuming and second up record looks moderate but the Gavin Bedggood-trained galloper did improve more than eight lengths on benchmark figures when going from a fresh win at Bendigo at his last preparation to a 9th at Sandown. He had an excuse that day when pulling up with a heart irregularity. He draws perfectly in barrier 5 and should be hard to beat.

Race 4 No. 5 SOME SHEILA- ($3)

SOME SHEILA can shake the maiden tag in Race 5. The four-year-old needed the run first up when 5th at Kyneton before stepping out at Sandown on November 29 and running 4th behind Ginger ’N’ Pink over the 1200m. She settled back in the small field before grinding away to land just under three lengths away. Form out of that has been red hot with three winners since, including Ginger N Pink, who was very impressive at Caulfield two Saturday’s ago. This looks much easier and she draws perfectly in barrier 3.
