BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.4  HONOUR ME  ($5 with BlueBet)

Grafton galloper HONOUR ME has been thereabouts in harder races of late and should find this contest a little easier today. Last start, the Husson gelding came off a creditable second placing in the Lismore Cup prelude when he finished fourth in the main event two weeks later. He ran out the 2100m, 2.6 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort here by more than 4 lengths. Michael Hellyer has the reins today as the six-year-old sees the Gold Coast track for the first time. With a trouble-free run here, he can give this a real shake.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 9:  No.9  LOST MEDIA ($8 with bet365)

Local galloper LOST MEDIA is new on the scene but has shown enough in two starts to suggest he is a genuine threat to this field today. Last start, the Winning Rupert gelding had his second race start and couldn’t have been more impressive when he clobbered his rivals to win his Maiden, here over 1100m. On a Heavy 10 that day, he did it with ease, putting almost four lengths on them and clocked the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race in the process. He gets the gun-run from gate one today as Craig Robertson returns for his second ride on the three-year-old. He (currently) looks a little ‘overs’ for this contest and is well worth an investment here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.6  LADY SHANGHAI  ($15 with Palmerbet)

The Lindsay Gough-trained LADY SHANGHAI is second-up today and is capable of surprising here at big odds. Last start, the lightly-raced Nicconi mare returned to the track after almost 18 months off the scene and performed well when finishing a close-up third in a Class 2 Hcp over 1100m at Kilcoy. She covered the last 600m, 3.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 2 lengths. She also recorded the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the race. Georgina Cartwright was aboard that day and sticks with her for this event. A two-time winner at the distance and already a winner when second-up, if she can overcome the wide gate today, she can figure in the finish here.
