BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.4  GOLD CARD  ($4.80 with Unibet)

Joe Burges saddles-up GOLD CARD here who is third-up today and looks in the mix for career-win number five in this contest. Last start, the Unencumbered gelding was second-up and showed enough improvement to beat home all but one in a BM68 over 1150m on Newcastle’s Beaumont track. That was his second start for the Burges stable (after transferring from the Peter Graham camp). Anna Roper was aboard that day and has enjoyed plenty of success with the five-year-old, steering him to two victories and as many runner-up finishes from her five rides to date. Down in grade today and already a two-time winner when third-up, he ticks enough boxes here to get interested in his chances of victory in this event.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.5  CARING LASS  ($5.50 with Ladbrokes)

The Matthew Smith-trained CARING LASS loves racing here, boasting top-two finishes in her two starts at the track, and at her peak today, she looks right in the mix in this contest. Last start, the Sebring mare came off a big win at Canberra when she beat all but one home, here in a BM64 over the 1600m trip. She is back here again today and has Ash Morgan returning to steer the ship, after scoring on the mare (on this track) earlier in the year. She likes to settle back in the field so the wide gate shouldn’t be an issue here. Fourth-up today, the 1900m looks ideal for her and a trouble-free run should see her in amongst them at the finish.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 3:  No.9  DUBLIN BELLE  ($5.75 with Picklebet)

The Annabel Neasham-trained DUBLIN BELLE has her third race start today and has done enough so far to suggest she is a winning chance in this contest. Last start, the So You Think mare contested start number two at Newcastle where she did well to take home third prize in a 1500m Maiden. With stayer’s blood in her veins, the mile trip looks ideal today as Chad Schofield takes the reins for the first time. She has a bit of work to do early from a wide draw but maps to settle near mid-field here with cover. Fitter for two runs now, she can give this a real shake today.
