BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.5 GULF OF TOMINI ($7.50 with Neds)
The Port Macquarie-based galloper GULF OF TOMINI is a track specialist here and back to country racing today, looks the one to beat in this contest. Last start, the Not A Single Doubt gelding was shooting for a hat-trick when he ventured into the city and found them a little too sharp for him, finishing last in a BM78 Hcp over 2000m at Rosehill. He returns to easier company today with Luke Rolls remaining in the saddle, who has steered the four-year-old to all five career wins to date. He maps to settle mid-field from gate six today and unbeaten in two starts at the track and trip, he looks the testing material in this contest at odds.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2: No.3 SMART CITY ($3.70 with Ladbrokes)
Gold Coast galloper SMART CITY makes his Grafton debut today and is red-hot form this time in, looks a big chance taking this one out. Last start, the Lonhro gelding made it two wins from his past three starts when he destroyed a Class 1/Maiden field over the mile at Ballina. With regular rider Sean Cormack aboard, he made it look easy, putting four lengths on the 11-strong field, leading from barrier to box. This looks no harder as Cormack keeps the job for toady’s assignment. Ideally drawn in gate three, they have the task of catching him again.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4: No.7 BLUE ACRES ($7 with bet365)
The locally-trained BLUE ACRES won on debut here two weeks ago and looks well placed for back-to-back victories today. The Deep Field gelding carried 59kgs and Luke Rolls at his first race appearance and simply proved too good for them that day, leading all the way in the 1000m event. He steps up in distance and faces Class 1 company here but drops in weight. Rolls sticks with him today and from gate six, he maps to settle on-speed. The money has come for him overnight, in from his opening quote of $12, and a repeat of his debut performance should see him fighting out the finish here.
