BEST BET 🏆
Race 4 No. 5 JEAN VALJEAN – ($2.80)
Two of South Australia’s shrewdest operators sealed the deal which saw JEAN VALJEAN move into the stables of Will Clarken. Roslyn Day secured her sharply bred gelding’s second win when Jean Valjean left a gap onto his rivals over 1100m here. They nearly got the job done again at his following start when beaten in the $100k Riziz series final. The experienced horse trainer/trainer banked her cheque from Clarken who immediately found a return on his investment. Jean Valjean charged from behind to land the prize over this track and distance in smart time for his new stable. Has since had the benefit of a trip away to Melbourne under his belt while finding a suitable race here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 9 No. 5 WHEELS – ($4.80)
We took Wheels off the Video Watch first-up and wrote her straight into the #SABlackbookers file. We weren’t surprised to see the mare who was bred for supremacy over two miles show no early gate speed over a sprint trip first-up. She maintained touch with the field though and built nicely along the inner section when turning for home. Teagan Voorham had to check off heels when finding her path blocked into the straight. She still managed to gather herself well once the race was over. She followed this with a good run over 1519 metres behind Lacrima before rising to 2100m at Gawler. Since looked the winner on the turn when tracking from well back before finishing second. Fitter, and can settle a little closer in the run for Laura Lafferty.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8 No. 8 LAST GIRL LOVE- ($8)
The recent short-term injury to Ryan Hurdle has opened the door for Liam Riordan to take the ride aboard LAST GIRL LOVE. The Jon O’Connor stable also has Motell engaged with another regular stable rider in Jason Holder booked to ride that horse. We landed a good dividend when Holder urged Last Girl Love to score with momentum while second-up at Strathalbyn. O’Connor got her out to the mile for the first time this prep, and she looked pretty winning her for Hurdle. Last Girl Love had them covered from a long way out and should handle the slight step-up in class.
